Grievella shanki  Ferrari & Markhaseva, 2000   (F)
Ref.:
Ferrari & Markhaseva, 2000 b (p.1080, Descr.F, figs.F)
Species Grievella shanki - Plate 1 of morphological figuresissued from : F.D. Ferrari & E.L. Markhaseva in Proc. Biol. Soc. Washington, 2000, 113 (4). [p.1081, Fig.1].
Female (from SE Pacif.: off NW Easter Is.): A, habitus (dorsal); B, idem (lateral left side); C, rostrum (ventral); D, idem (right lateral); E, idem (ventral); F, urosome (dorsal); G, idem (left lateral); H, genital complex (ventral), arrow to location of copulatory opening); I, idem (left lateral); J, idem (right lateral, arrow to oviductal opening); K, caudal rami (ventral).
Bars: A, B 1.0 mm; C-J 0.100 mm.

Nota: Head and 1st thoracic segment fused, 4th and 5th fused. A1 (24-segmented) reaching 3rd thoracic segment; caudal rami with 4 large, terminal setae, 1 small medial-ventral seta and 1 small lateral-dorsal seta.
For the authors the true first thoracic somite is corresponding to Mxp in the publication as the genital complex incoporates the last thoracic somite and the first urosomal somite (= genital complex).

Species Grievella shanki - Plate 2 of morphological figuresissued from : F.D. Ferrari & E.L. Markhaseva in Proc. Biol. Soc. Washington, 2000, 113 (4). [p.1082, Fig.2].
Female: A, left A1 (segments 1-13); B, idem (segments 14-21); C, idem (segments 22-24; D, right A1 (segments 22-24); E, A2 (posterior); F, idem (distal segment of endopod).
Bars: 0.1 mm.
Nota: A1 with 1 denticle proximally on ventral face of segment 7, several smaller denticles distally on dorsal face of segments 19 and 20, segment 22 with ear-like extension anteriorly with ear cavity facing proximally.

Species Grievella shanki - Plate 3 of morphological figuresissued from : F.D. Ferrari & E.L. Markhaseva in Proc. Biol. Soc. Washington, 2000, 113 (4). [p.1083, Fig.3].
Female: A, Md (mandibular palp, posterior); B, Md (mandibular blade, posterior); C, Mx1.
Bars: 0.1 mm.
Nota: Mx1 with praecoxa with 9 terminal and 3 posterior setae , coxal epipodite with 7 long, thick and 2 short, thin setae; coxal endite with 2 setae; proximal and distal basal endites each with 4 setae; endopod with 10 setae in groups of 3 and 7; endopod with 6 setae.

Species Grievella shanki - Plate 4 of morphological figuresissued from : F.D. Ferrari & E.L. Markhaseva in Proc. Biol. Soc. Washington, 2000, 113 (4). [p.1085, Fig.4].
Female: A, Mx2 (setation of praecoxal and coxal lobes, posterior); B, Mx2 (proximal lobe of basis, posterior); C, Mx2 (distal lobe basis and exopod, posterior); D, Mxp (syncoxa and basis, anterior); E, distal lobe of basis and endopod, posterior).
Bars: 0, 1mm.
Nota: Mx2 with proximal praecoxal endite with 5 setae and attenuate point, distal endite with 3 setae; proximal coxal endite with 3 setae, distal with 3 setae.; proximal basal endite with 1 long, thick seta, 2 long, thin seta and 1 poorly sclerotized setae; distal basal lobe plus exopod with 9 sensory setae,3 worm-like setae distally and 6 brush-like setae

Species Grievella shanki - Plate 5 of morphological figuresissued from : F.D. Ferrari & E.L. Markhaseva in Proc. Biol. Soc. Washington, 2000, 113 (4). [p.1086, Fig.5].
Female: A, P1 (anterior); B, Von Vaupel Klein's organ of P1 (anterior); C, P2 (posterior); D, P3 (posterior); E, P4 (posterior); F, P5 (posterior).
Bars: 0.1 mm.
Nota: P1 with endopod 1-segmented, quadrate protuberence of Von Vaupel Klein's organ with anterior row of denticles and posterior pore on lateral edge.

Distribution map of Grievella shanki by geographical zones
Loc:
SE Pacific Rise: Hydrothermal vent (hyperbenthic: 2788 m)
N: 1
Lg.:
(813) F: 2,15; {F: 2,15}
Pr: 1,61 mm; Ur: 0,54 mm (Ferrari, comm. pers.).
Rem.: Hyperbenthic (depths: 2788 m).
According to Ferrari & Markhaseva (2000, p.1084-1087) the decision to place this species within the Scolecitrichidae is tentative.
