Suarez-Morales & Gasca-Serrano, 1992 (p.301, Descr.F, figs.F); Grygier, 1995 a (p.56, 60); Suarez-Morales & Castellanos-Osorio, 2019 (p.120).
Species Monstrilla barbata - Plate 1 of morphological figuresissued from : E. Suarez-Morales & R. Gasca-Serrano in Crustaceana, 1992, 63 (3). [p.302, Fig.1].
Female (from Bahia de la Axcencion, Yucatan): a, habitus (dorsal; b, left A1; c, caudal rami (dorsal); d, urosome (lateral).
Scales bar in mm.

Nota: cephalothorax 0.47 the body length. Oral papilla located 0.20 of the way back along the cephalothorax. Cephalothorx, between the oral papilla and the A1 bases, a prominent process is present (in ventral view), in lateral view resembling a keel with irregular edge. Eyes present, moderately developed, rounded. A1 4-segmented; ratio of length of antennule segments 44.4:18.05:23.6:13.9 = 100; A1 slightly longer than 0.13 of the total body length. Urosome consisting of 5th pedigerous somite, genital double-somite and 2 free abdominal somites; length ratio of genital and two free abdominal somites 52.3:20.4:27.3 = 100.. Genital double-somite with dorsal suture, and with long ovigerous spiniform processes, which extend beyond the caudal rami.; genital somite with a prominent protuberance, directed anteriorly, and also 2 small knob-like protuberances on the external margin.Caudal rami 1.9 times longer than xwide, bearing 6 setae (5 of them subequal)

Species Monstrilla barbata - Plate 2 of morphological figuresissued from : issued from : E. Suarez-Morales & Gasca-Serrano in Crustaceana, 1992, 63 (3). [p. [p.303, Fig.2].
Female: e, genital complex with ovigerous spines (ventral); f, P5; g, forehead (lateral).
Nota: P5 fused medially, each leg with 2 distinct lobes; small inner lobe (endopodal) bearing 1 seta; larger outer lobe (exopodal) with a small distal protuberance, armed with 3 setae, the seta borne on the distal outer margin is longer and thicker than the other two.

Species Monstrilla barbata - Plate 3 of morphological figuresissued from : E. Suarez-Morales & Gasca-Serrano in Crustaceana, 1992, 63 (3). [p.304].
