Exumella tsonot  Suarez-Morales & Iliffe, 2005   (F,M)
Ref.:
Suarez-Morales & Iliffe, 2005 (p.411, figs.F,M, Rem.))
Species Exumella tsonot - Plate 1 of morphological figuresissued from : E. Suarez-Morales & T.M. Iliffe in Bull. Mar. Sci., 2005, 77 (3); [p.412, Fig.3].
Female (from Ponderosa Cave, Purto Aventuras, Yucatan): A, E, habitus (dorsal and lateral, respectively); B, genital somite (lateral); C, urosome and caudal rami (ventral); D, caudal rami (dorsal).

Nota: Rostrum strong, wide-based, triangular, rostral filaments paired, long, visible in lateral view, with pair of relatively large, oval integumental sensory vesicles and small sensillae on anterior surface. Urosome 3-segmented, (excluding caudal rami) representing 28 % of total body length. Genital double-somite representing 45 % of urosome length, slightly asymmetrical, right margin slirhtly protuberant, not expanded ventrally but laterally, associated with genital pore and genital operculum. Anal somite subrectangular, representing 28 % of urosome length. Cuticular ornamentation absent on dorsal and ventral surfaces of urosomites. Caudal rami lamelliform, symmetrical, with distal spiniform process on dorsal surface, near insertion of dorsal seta; each caudal ramus with 4 terminal, 1 dorsal, and 1 outer spiniform seta; caudal seta V (sensu Huys & Boxshall, 1991, p.30) on left ramus slightly longer than corresponding seta on right ramus.

Species Exumella tsonot - Plate 2 of morphological figuresissued from : E. Suarez-Morales & T.M. Iliffe in Bull. Mar. Sci., 2005, 77 (3); [p.413, Fig.4].
Female: A, right A1 (free segments 1-17; anterior view; Roman numbers indicate ancestral antennular segments of fusions); B, idem (free distal segments 18-24); C, A2; D, Md (mandibular palp; enp = endopod, exp = exopod); E, Md (mandibular blade.

Nota: A1 24-segmented, reaching posterior margin of 3rd pedigerous somite; proximal ancestral segments (indicated by Roman numerals) I-IV partially fused. Distal endopodal segment of the mandibular palp with 5 setae.

Species Exumella tsonot - Plate 3 of morphological figuresissued from : E. Suarez-Morales & T.M. Iliffe in Bull. Mar. Sci., 2005, 77 (3); [p.414, Fig.5].
Female: A, Mx1; B, Mx2; C, Mxp; D, detail of distal endopodal segments of Mxp; E, P1 (anterior view).

Nota: Mx1 with praecoxal arthrite bearing 9 stout spiniform setae plus 1 short seta; coxal epipodite with 10 setae, subequal; coxal endite elongated, with 4 setae; proximal basal endite lobe bearing 4 setae, distal lobe with 3 setae; endopod reduced, 1-segmented, with 5 distal setae; exopod with 10 subequal setae. mx2 indistinctly segmented, coxa and praecoxa partially fused, with 4 lobes (2 praecoxal and 2 coxal), 1st lobe with 6 setae, 2nd to 4th lobes each with 3 setae; basal segment with well-developed basal lobe bearring 4 plumose setae; endopod 3-segmented, 1st segment protuberant, with 2 setae, 2nd and 3rd segments with 2 setae each. Mxp with syncoxa armed with 6 setae, distributed in 3 groups (1, 2 and 3 setae).; basis with 4 setae in 2 groups (2 and 2 setae); endopod 5-segmented, 1st segment with 4 setae, 2nd with 4 setae, 3rd with 3 setae, 4th with 2 terminal plus1 dorsal setae, last segment with 3 distal setae.

Species Exumella tsonot - Plate 4 of morphological figuresissued from : E. Suarez-Morales & T.M. Iliffe in Bull. Mar. Sci., 2005, 77 (3); [p.417, Fig.6].
Female: A, P2; B, P3; C, P4; D, P5.
All appendages in anterior view.
Nota: 1st endopodal segment of P5 with an outer process bifurcate at apex.

Species Exumella tsonot - Plate 5 of morphological figuresissued from : E. Suarez-Morales & T.M. Iliffe in Bull. Mar. Sci., 2005, 77 (3); [p.416].
Female: Armature formula of swimming legs.
Roman numerals = spiniform elements; arabic numerals = setae.

Nota: The swimming legs 1 has a relatively large, subacute outer spiniform process on the 1st endopodal segment.

Species Exumella tsonot - Plate 6 of morphological figuresissued from : E. Suarez-Morales & T.M. Iliffe in Bull. Mar. Sci., 2005, 77 (3); [p.418, Fig.7];
Male: A, right A1 (segments 1-15; Roman numbers indicate ancestral segments of fusions; anterior view); B, idem (distal segments 1-19); D, habitus (lateral); E, right P5; F, left P5.

Nota: Urosome representing 24-26 % of total body length, symmetrical, 4-segmented; relative lengths of urosomites 21: 24: 25: 30 = 100; Caudal rami symmetrical, about 0.75 the length of anal somite, caudal seta V (sensu Huys & Boxshall, 1991, p.30) symmetrical on both caudal rami. Left A1 24-segmented, last segment of left A1 reaching posterior margin of 4th urosomite; right A1 geniculate, with 19 free segments (ancestral segments II-IV partially fused, XXI and XII-XIII fused).
