Female (from Madeira Is.): a, habitus (lateral left side), with spermatophore attached to genital segment; b, rostrum (frontal view); c, A2; d, Md (mandibular palp); e, Md (cutting edge); f, Mx1; g, Mx2; h, Mxp.

Nota: Head and 1st thoracic segment separate, 4th and 5th separate. A1 with 23 free segments. Exopod of A2 7-segmented. Mx1 with 2nd basal segment and endopod fused and devoid of setae. Mx2 with 5 lobes and 4 coarse setae distally.
Rem.: After Grice & Hulsemann (1967, p.40) segments 7 and 8 of A1 are fused and not segments 8 and 9 as stated in the text; segments 24 and 25 are fused and not segments 23 and 24 as also stated in the text.

Nota: Right A1 geniculate (18 free segments, segment 14 with small serrations on margin). P5 biramous, right exopod 3-segmented, left exopod 1-segmented; endopods 1-segmented, bulbous.
Rem: After the authors (1967, p.40) In the male described in 1965, segments 7 and 8 of A1 are fused.

For Grice & Hulsemann (1965) this species differ from Z. abyssalis Brodsky (1955) by the absence of spine-like protrusions on the ventral side of the genital segment; the lack of setae on the 3rd lobe and endopod of the Mx1; the coarse setae on the distal end of Mx2; the small spine on the 2nd basal segment of P3; the presence of an inner, spine-like protrusion on the 1st exopod segment and the naked endopods of P5.
