Species Acartia (Acanthacartia) dweepi - Plate 1 of morphological figuresissued from : P. Haridas & M. Madhupratap in Curr. Sci., 1978, 47 (5). [p.176, Figs.1-6].
Female (from Agatti atoll, Maldives): 1, habitus (dorsal); 2, urosome (dorsal); 3, A1.
Nota: forehead broadly triangular anteriorly. Rostral filaments present. Relative lengths of prosome and urosome 81:19 %. Posterior corner of prosome rounded without any spines. A row of 4 to 5 small spinules present on the dorsolateral side of the 5th pedigerous segment. Relative lengths of urosome segments and caudal rami 2:0.9:0.5:0.7. Caudal rami longer than wide with hairs on lateral margin. A1 extends to the posterior margin of prosome; 18 to 19 segmented (4th and 13 th segments bear a single and a pair of aesthetascs, respectively.

Male: 4, habitus (dorsal); 5, urosome (dorsal); 6, A1.
Nota: Relative lengths of prosome and urosome 80:20 %. Posterior corners of the prosome rounded and bearing 4 to 3 small spinules on the dorsolateral sides. Relative lengths of the urosome segments and caudal rami 1:3.5:1.5:1:1:1.5. Urosomal segment 1 bilobed on the lateral sides with small hairs. Posterior margins of the urosomal segments 2, 3 and 4 with small spinules. A1 16-segmented, geniculation on the right A1, between segments 12 and 13; segment 13 with serrated anterior margin.

Distribution map of Acartia (Acanthacartia) dweepi by geographical zones
Loc:
NW Indian (Laccadives Is.: Atoll Agatti, outside and inside lagoon)
N: 3
Lg.:

Rem.: coastal.
For Haridas & Madhupratap (1978, p.177) the female resembles A. fossae and A. hamata Mori, 1964 which Grice (1964) considers as probably same as A. fossae. But the males of the two species differ significantly.
After Madhupratap & al., 1991 ( p.951), this species appears to be endemic to the lagoons of the Laccadives.
