Considered as vetical migrator. Sampling depth (sub-Antarct.) : 100-250 m. Overall Depth Range in Sargasso Sea: 0-1000 m (Deevey & Brooks, 1977, Station "S"); Vervoort (1957, p.124) does not maintain the specific rank of this species, following Steuer (1931) as a variety of Pleuromamma gracilis (P. gracilis piseki), but in 1965 (p109) it should be referred to as the Farran's species.. After Bradford-Grieve (1999 b, p.121) the identity of the males is not always clear, there is a possibility that P. gracilis, P. piseki, P. borealis have been confused when they have not been dissected.
