Species Pontella rostraticauda - Plate 1 of morphological figuresissued from : S. Ohtsuka, A. Fleminger & T. Onbé in J. Crustacean Biol., 1987, 7 (3). [p.557, Fig.2].
Female (from Inland Sea, Japan): A, habitus (dorsal); B, forehead (lateral); C, urosome (dorsal); D, idem (lateral right side); E, idem (lateral left side); F, genital opening; G, A1; H, A2; I, Md (mandibular cutting edge); J, Md (mandibular palp).
Nota: Cephalosome and 1st pedigerous segment separate, 4th and 5th separate. Cephalosome with pair of lenses located anteriorly; rostrum without lens, divided distally into two short spiniform processes. Urosome 2-segmented. Genital segment asymmetrical with small anterolateral swelling and very large posterodorsal beaklike elevation. Genital operculum produced into blunt perocess on right side. Caudal rami asymmetrical, right broader and longer than left.

Species Pontella rostraticauda - Plate 2 of morphological figuresissued from : S. Ohtsuka, A. Fleminger & T. Onbé in J. Crustacean Biol., 1987, 7 (3). [p.558, Fig.3].
Female: A, Mx1; B, Mx2 (setules on setae omitted); C, Mxp; D, P1 (anterior); E, P2 (anterior); F, P3 (anterior); G, P4 (posterior); H, P5 (posterior).
Nota: Mx1 with gnathobase having 16 stout setae, minute spinules and fine hairs near base of stout setae; 2nd inner lobe with 3 setae of unequal length; 3rd inner lobe with 1 long and 3 short setae of subequal length; 1st outer lobe with 9 setae; 2nd outer lobe rudimentary, with wingle seta; basipod 2 with long hairs on inner basal half, 4 medial setae, 4 subapical setae, and 5 apical setae; endopod fused with basipod 2; exopod with 10 setae and small setula. Mx2 with 6 inner lobes on basal segment; 4th to 6th lobes with 2, 1, 1 strong setae, respectively, each with row of setulae arranged at right angles to its inner margin and distal end serrated; endopod 3-segmented, 1st segment with 1 single strong seta, 2nd with setula and strong seta, 3rd with 3 strong setae (1 being serrate along inner margin)). Mxp with basipod 1 having 3 groups of setae (2, 3, 3 setae, respectively), distal part produced distally covering basal part of basipod 2; anterior margin of basipod 2 fringed with row of small teeth and small setula subdistally and 2 plumose setae distally; endopod of 5 free segments, 1st segment with 2 distal setae, 2nd to 4th each bearing distal seta, last with 3 setae of unequal length.

Species Pontella rostraticauda - Plate 3 of morphological figuresissued from : S. Ohtsuka, A. Fleminger & T. Onbé in J. Crustacean Biol., 1987, 7 (3). [p.559, Fig.4].
Male: A, forehead (lateral); B, habitus (dorsal); C, right A1; D, P5 (posterior). Da = aesthete-like seta on terminal segment of left P5; Db = lateral spinulose seta on terminal segment of left P5.
Nota: Rostrum, anterior and posterior sides with 2 well-developed lenses (absent in female). Urosome 5-segmented. Genital segment slightly asymmetrical, left side weakly produced. Caudal rami symmetrical. Right A1 geniculate, 25-segmented, 1st to 12th segments proximal to expanded 4 (13th to 16th) segments incompletely fused, last 4 segments fused. Left A1 25-segmented (11th and 12th segments partially fused)

Species Pontella rostraticauda - Plate 4 of morphological figuresissued from : S. Ohtsuka, A. Fleminger & T. Onbé in J. Crustacean Biol., 1987, 7 (3). [p.560, Fig.5].
Variations: A, abnormal terminal exopod segment of left P4 female; BB,C, the tip of the short process of the female right endopod of P5 may be straight (B) or curved inwards (C); D-F, the tip of the terminal spinelike process of the left P5 male is straight (D) or curved slightly outwards (E, F); G-I, the perpendicular digitiform process of male is abnormally slender and curved inwards (I), although that othhers specimens have the same shape (G, H).
