Loc:
Caribbean Sea, Caribbean Colombia, G. of Mexico, SE Atlant. (3°N-13°S), W Indian, Arct. (all polar Basins, Canada Basin, Makharov Basin, Amundsen Basin, Nansen Basin)
N: 7

(1252) F: Pr/Ur = 3,2-3,9.
Rem.: bathypelagic-abyssopelagic.
The species is close in habitus to M. cultrifer Farran (1908).
For Park (1970) the males described by Grice & Hulsemann (1967) from the Indian Ocean seem belong to M. crassus.
