Species Monstrilla capitellicola - Plate 1 of morphological figuresissued from : O. Hartman in Zool. Anz., 1961, 164 (9-12). [p.328, Fig.1].
Female (from La Jolla canyon, California): 1, habitus (lateral); 2, specimen enclosed in host, Capitella capitata oculata (left lateral view); 3, A1; 4, abdomen showing genital setae (ventral view); 5, P5, showing inner lobe and outer setae.

Nota: Adult females, still enclosed in the capsular sheat of the imago; freed of the sheat and host (fig.1) they are somewhat longer and slenderer.
Anterior end of the head bluntly rounded, and A1 directed ventrally.
Eyes present (obscured by the pigment areas.
Head and thorax together are a little more than half the length of body.

Distribution map of Monstrilla capitellicola by geographical zones
Loc:
California (Los Angeles-La Jolla)
N: 1
Lg.:
(740) F: 1,74; {F: 1,74}
Rem.: Most of the parasites were found to lie along the dorsal side of the alimentary tract of the host, behind the membrane separating thorax from abdomen; others were found farther back, and a few were in thoracic segments of the host. The capitellid (Polychaeta, Capitellidae) host is Capitella capita oculata new subspecies, taken off southern California (La Jolla canyon).
Fopr Grygier & Suarez-Morales (2018, p.505) consider this species ''invalid'', it would be more accurate to regard its as a nomen inquirendum.
