Rem.: epi-mesopelagic, sometimes bathypelagic. Overall depth Range in Sargasso Sea: 0-500 m (Deevey & Brooks, 1977, Station "S"). 0-1236 m at Station T-1 (E Tori Is., E middle Japan) and 82-526 m at Station N-1 (SW Bösö, E middle Japan) from Furuhashi (1966 a).
After Acha & al. (2020), this species inhabited Northern shelfbreak, summer northern shelf in SW Atlantic.
After Björnberg, 1963 (p.84) this species is a typical indicator of warm tropical oceanic water.
After Lubny-Gertzyk (1968, p.276) the northern limit in May 1955 in the north-western part of the Pacific was found to be 39°N in the surface layer, but below 50 m they did not occur much north of 35°N; these limits coincided with the position of the cold intermediate layer.
For Boxshall & Halsey (2004, p.491) the subgenus (Dahl, 1912) is considered as full generic status pending phylogenetic revision of the whole family at the generic level.
According to Kang & al. (1990, p.51): Motoda (1963) noted that the length of seta on basipod 1 of A2 was 2.8 times that of basipod 2 of A2.
