Syn.: Oncaea notopus : Giesbrecht, 1902 (p.41, figs.F); Vervoort, 1951 (p.152); 1957 (p.148)
Ref.:
Heron, 1977 (p.68, Descr.F, figs.F); Gardner & Szabo, 1982 (p.122, figs.F); Heron & Bradford-Grieve, 1995 (p.41, figs.F,M); Bradford-Grieve & al., 1999 (p.887, 970, figs.F,M); Heron & Frost, 2000 (p.1042, figs.F,M, tab.2, 3)
Espèce Oncaea prolata - Planche 1 de figures morphologiquesissued from : G.A. Heron & B.W. Frost in Proc. Biol. Soc. Washington, 2000, 113 (4). [p.1043, Fig.15, A-B].
Female (from NE Pacific): pediger 4 posterior corner and urosome (lateral; scale bar: x).
Nota: P5 displays one of the important characters for distinguising it from other similar species: the longer terminal seta is approximately twice as long as the short spiniform seta

Male: B, Mxp (ventral; scale bar: x).
Nota: Mxp has a slight inner swelling and bears 2 setae and 3 medial rows of spatulate setules.

Espèce Oncaea prolata - Planche 2 de figures morphologiquesissued from : G.A. Heron & B.W. Frost in Proc. Biol. Soc. Washington, 2000, 113 (4). [p.1022, Fig.2, D].
Female: P2-P4 endopod terminal ''spine set'' (combination of the lengths, shapes, and position of the three or two terminal spines on the endopods of swimming legs 2-4 , from left to right in figure, for different Oncaea' species).

Nota: endopod of P3 with lateral spine extending about as distal margin of cone.

Espèce Oncaea prolata - Planche 3 de figures morphologiquesissued from : G.A. Heron in Antarct. Res. Ser. Washington, 1977, 26. [p.69, Fig.19, g-r].
Female (from SW Pacific-Antarctic area): g, habitus (lateral; scale bar: X); h, posterior of last prosomal segment and urosome (lateral; scale bar: Y); i, urosome (dorsal; scale bar: Y); j, left A1 (scale bar: Y); k, left A2 (scale bar: Y); l, labrum (scale bar: Z); m, left Md (scale bar: Z); n, right Mx1 (scale bar: Z); o, right Mx2 (scale bar: Z); p, left Mxp (scale bar: Y); q, P1 (scale bar: Y); r, P2 (scale bar: Y).

Espèce Oncaea prolata - Planche 4 de figures morphologiquesissued from : G.A. Heron in Antarct. Res. Ser. Washington, 1977, 26. [p.71, Fig.20, a-c].
Female: a, P3 (scale bar: Y); b, P4 (scale bar: Y); c, P5 (scale bar: Z).

Espèce Oncaea prolata - Planche 5 de figures morphologiquesissued from : W. Giesbrecht in Copepoden. Res. voyage du S. Y. Belgica. Rapports scientifiques, Zoologie, 1902. [Taf. XIII, Figs. 1-6]. As Oncaea notopus.
Female (from 70°25'S, 83°27'W): 1, habitus (dorsal); 2, Mxp; 3, A2; 4, caudal ramus; 5, P5; 6, endopod of P4.

Espèce Oncaea prolata - Planche 6 de figures morphologiquesissued from : G.A. Heron & J.M. Bradford-Grieve in New Zealand Oceanogr. Inst. memoir 104. NIWA, 1995. [p.42, Fig.20].
Male (from 62°37'S, 169°51'E): a-b, habitus (lateral and dorsal, respectively) [r]; c, left Mxp [s]; d, P5 [u].

Scale in p.13, Fig.2. Letter in brackets.

Nota: Body with scattered refractile points.
Prosome slightly longer than double length of urosome.
Urosome 1st segment with transverse sclerotized line dorsoposteriorly.
A1 with segments corresponding to terminal 3 of the female fused in male; armature similar to corresponding segments of female, except for absence of distal seta on 3rd segment.
Mxp lacking small segment proximal to claw of female; claw with sinuous profile; armament similar to that of O. conifera male.
Swimming legs as in female.
P5 a free segment; long terminal seta about 1.7 times length of shorter seta; seta on body near leg.
P6 represented by posterolateral flap on ventral surface of genital segment (fig. a)
