Campaner, 1978 a (p.976, 977, Rem.); Ferrari & Markhaseva, 2000 (p.1070, figs.F); Bradford-Grieve, 2004 b (p.645, tab.2)
Species Brachycalanus ordinarius - Plate 1 of morphological figuresissued from : G.D. Grice in Crustaceana, 1972, 23 (3). [p.234, Figs.101-108]. As Xanthocalanus ordinarius.
Female (off S. Cap Cod): 101, habitus (lateral right side); 102, 4th and 5th thoracic segments and genital segment (dorsal); 103, genital segment (ventral); 104, idem (lateral); 105, A1; 106, A2; 108, Mx1.
Nota: Head and 1st thoracic segment separate, 4th and 5th fused. Urosomal segments with \"scales\"; genital segment with rounded protuberances. Rostrum with 2 filaments. A1 reaches the 4th thoracic segment.

Species Brachycalanus ordinarius - Plate 2 of morphological figuresissued from : G.D. Grice in Crustaceana, 1972, 23 (3). [p.235, Figs.109-119]. As Xanthocalanus ordinarius.
Female (off S. Cap Cod): 109 a, Mx2 (sensory appendages removed); 109 b, sensory appendages of Mx2; 110, Mxp; 111, P1 (anterior); 112, P1 (posterior); 113, P2 (posterior); 114, P3 (posterior), (2nd and 3rd exopod segments missing). 115, P3 (anterior), (2nd and 3rd exopod segments missing); 116, 2nd and 3rd exopod segments of P3 (posterior); 117, P4 (posterior); 118, 1st basal segment of P4 (anterior); 119 a, P5 (anterior); 119 b, idem (posterior).
Nota: Swimming feet densely covered with \"scales\" and spines especially on posterior surfaces.

Species Brachycalanus ordinarius - Plate 3 of morphological figuresissued from : F.D. Ferrari & E.L. Markhaseva in Proc. Biol. Soc. Washington, 2000, 113 (4). [p.1075, Fig.8].
Female: A, posterior end of prosome and genital complex (lateral right side); B, A1 (segments 1-4, ventral toward right); C, idem (segments 5-11, ventral toward right); D, idem (segments 12-21, ventral right); E, idem (segments 22-24, ventral right); F, distal basal lobe and exopod of Mx2; G, worm-like setae of exopod of Mx2; H, Mxp (syncoxa and basis, with distal lobe omitted), anterior.
Bars: 0.1 mm.
Nota: Exopod of Mx2 with a distally constricted worm-like seta with a small lobe near the point of constriction.

Distribution map of Brachycalanus ordinarius by geographical zones
Loc:
NW Atlant. (off S Cape Cod)
N: 2
Lg.:
(213) F: 3,4-2,92; {F: 2,92-3,40}
Rem.: bathypelagic (depths: 992-1000 m), hyperbenthic.
This species resembles Xanthocalanus obtusus Farran, 1905.
For Campaner (1978 a, p.976, 977), Xanthocalanus ordinarius Grice, 1972, is doubtless a new species of Bracchycalanus, differing from B. bjornbergae by size and the shape of the body in lateral view, the length of the rostral filaments, the fusion of thoracic segments 4 and 5, the length of the postero-lateral corners of last thoracic segment, the length and position of the subterminal seta of exopodite 7 of A2, the number and/or shape of the setae of endopodal segments 1-3 and inner lobe 1 of Mx1, the shape and size of the setae of the inner lobe 5 and endopodite of Mx2, of the terminal spine of the inner lobe 5 of Mx2 and the setaze of basipod 1-2 of Mxp, the shape, number and distribution of the spines on the dorsal and ventral surfaces of P1-P5.
