For Vervoort (1957, p.93) the form recorded by Sewell (1920) as Cornucalanus simplex from the Bay of Bengal, differs from previously published accounts of this form. The is without cephalic spine and of intermediate length (4.0 mm). The postero-lateral thoracic border is produced into a triangular plate that is rounded at the apex and has no spine as occurs in Cornucalanus simplex. The claws on the terminal portion of Mxp are of the type met with in Cornucalanus chelifer, i.e., with coarse, widely spaced spinules at the base and fine spinules at the apical portion; thus quite different from the condition found in C. simplex. All spinules on the claws are set in a single, longitudinal row; the coarse spinules cover about 2/3 of the length. The particulars of the P5 have not been described by Sewell. | | | Last update : 02/01/2015 | |
