Xanthocalanus amabilis  Tanaka, 1960   (F)
Ref.:
Tanaka, 1960 a (p.90, Descr.F, figs.F); Bradford & al., 1983 (p.71)
Species Xanthocalanus amabilis - Plate 1 of morphological figuresissued from : O. Tanaka in Publ. Sero Mar. Biol. Lab., 1960, VIII (1). [p.91, Fig.84].
Female (from Sagami Bay, Japan): a, habitus (dorsal); b, forehead (lateral); c, last thoracic segment and urosome (lateral left side); d, genital segment (ventral); e, rostrum (anterior view); f, Md (cutting edge); g, P1; h, P2; i, endopod of P3; j, P5.

Nota: Head and 1st thoracic segment separate, 4th and 5th separated.
Lateral distal corner of the last thoracic segment produced into a small pointed tooth.
Cephalothorax 2.04 mm; abdomen 0.62 mm.
The abdominal segments and furca in the proportions 37 : 26 : 17 :6 : 14 = 100.
The first 3 abdominal segments are furnished with fine teeth on the distal margin.
A2 with the exopodite 1.3 times as long as the endopodite (41 : 31).
Md exopodite as long as the endopodite.
Mx1 with 9 setae on the outer lobe, 10 setae on the exopodite, 4+2+2 setae on the endopodite, 5 setae on the 2nd basal segment.
Mxp: proportions of segments 400 : 367 : 55 : 78 : 45 : 33 : 22 = 1000.
P5 3-segmented, sfhort and tumid; 1st sefment slightly longer than wide, with groups of spinules on the inner margin; 2nd segment swollen, about as long as wide, with short spinules on the inner margin and longer ones on the outer distalhalf of the segment, these spinules more densely fusnished on the anterior surface; 3rf segment with 4 marginal spines of which the inner one the longest; the segment furnished with groups of spinules on the anterior surface

Species Xanthocalanus amabilis - Plate 2 of morphological figuresissued from : O. Tanaka in Publ. Sero Mar. Biol. Lab., 1960, VIII (1). [p. 91].
Female: Proportions of segments of A1.

Nota: A1 24-segmented, extends back to the distal margin of the 2nd abdominal segment.

Distribution map of Xanthocalanus amabilis by geographical zones
Loc:
Japan (Sagami Bay)
N: 1
Lg.:
(4) F: 2,66; {F: 2,66}
Rem.: For Tanaka (1960, p.92) the species resembles X. obtusus and closely related to X. fallax. In the haul 0-1000 m.
