Xanthocalanus cornifer  (Tanaka, 1960)   (M)
Syn.: Amallophora cornifer Tanaka, 1960 a (p.107, Descr.M, figs.M)
Ref.:
Bradford & al., 1983 (p.71); Tanaka & Omori, 1992 (p.270, Rem.)
Species Xanthocalanus cornifer - Plate 1 of morphological figuresissued from : O. Tanaka in Publ. Sero Mar. Biol. Lab., 1960, VIII (1). [p.108, Fig.91]. As Amallophora cornifer.
Male (Suruga Bay, Japan): a, habitus (dorsal); b, forehead (lateral); c, last thoracic segment with P5 and urosome (lateral left side); d, proximal segments of A1; e, rostrum (anterior aspect); f, Mx1; g, Mx2; h, Mxp; i, P1; j, P2; k, distal segment of left P5; l, right P5.

Nota: Head and 1st thoracic segment separate, 4th and 5th fused.
Frontal margin of the head slightly produced in dorsal aspect and narrowly rounded in lateral aspect.
Basal part of rostrum ptroducing forward, to which 2 strong filaments are attached.
Abdomen 5-segmented. The abdominal segments and furca in the proportional lengths 13 : 27 : 25 : 19 : 6 : 10 = 100.
A2 exopodite 1.5 times as long as the endopodite.
Mx1: 9 setae on the outer labe, 10 setae on the exopodite; the setae on the 1st lobe soft-skined.
Mx2: one large button-like sensory appendage, and 6 small bud-like sensory setae on the endopodite; the outer lobes have each long fleible spines.
1st basal segment of Mxp with a small sensory seta on the anterior proximal margin.
Right P5 short, 3rd segment with an outer edge spine, 5th with a small apical and a subapical outer marginal spine. Left P5 long, terminal segment with a small spine and hairs on the distal margin, 4th with a transverse row of spines on the distal outer margin.

Species Xanthocalanus cornifer - Plate 2 of morphological figuresissued from : O. Tanaka in Publ. Sero Mar. Biol. Lab., 1960, VIII (1). [p. 107]. As Amallophora cornifer.
Male: Proportionnal lengths of segments of A1.

Nota: A1 21-segmented, extends to the distal end of the 2nd abdominal segment. Segments 8 to 12 fused, but the segments 8 and 9 incompletely fused. The total length of A1 measured 2.75 mm.
