Distribution map of Xanthocalanus incertus by geographical zones
|
| | | Loc: | | | W Gibraltar | | | N: | 1 | | | Rem.: | specimen in bad state. Sars (1925, p.374, 375) noted this species at station 1260 SW of Monaco, like X. fallax, which does not correspond to his text (p.140) that indicates W Gibraltar. bathypelagic. For Vervoort (1965, p.72) Scolecithricella (Amallothrix) altera [ = Mixtocalanus alter] is very closely related, if not identical with Xanthocalanus incertus Sars, 1920 (cf. Sars, 1925, p.139, Pl.38, figs.19-23; Rose, 1933, p.132, fig.122). P5 differs in the presence of 3 spiniform setae, the long spiniform seta is flanked by an external and an internal shorter spine; Sars' picture of P5 may be based on reconstruction. | | | Last update : 02/02/2015 | |
