Distribution map of Ivellopsis elephas by geographical zones
China Seas (south East China Sea), Philippines (Sibago Island), Sulu Sea, Jakarta Bay, Pai Island, Singapore, Indian
N: 7
(5) M: 3,1; (136) F: 3,4-2,95; M: 3,05-2,7; (137) F: 3,2; M: 3; (1126) F: 2,97-3,0; M: 2,58-2,61; {F: 2,95-3,40; M: 2,58-3,10}
Rem.: Associated with Sargassum beds.
For Ohtsuka & al. (p.564) the male discribed as Pontella surrecta by C.B. Wilson (1950) should be referred to P. elephas (= Ivellopsis elephas), after examination of the type specimens.
After Mulyadi (2011, p.1532-1533) the Scott's (1909) male as Pontella forficula (p.162, Plate LIII) from the Sulu Sea must be considered as the male of Ivellopsis elephas (Brady, 1883), and therefore Scott's (1909) species name has become unvalid.
