Grice, 1969 a (p.446, Descr.F, figs.F); Markhaseva, 1996 (p.93, figs.F)
Species Chiridiella chainae - Plate 1 of morphological figuresissued from : G.D. Grice in Bull. mar. Sc., 1969, 19 (2). [p.447, Figs. 1-15].
Female (from 20°40'N, 84°26'W): 1, habitus (lateral right side); 2, A1 (segments 1-14); 3, A1 (segments 15-18); 4, A1 (segments 19-23); 5, A2; 6, Md (mandibular palp); 7, Md (cutting edge of mandibular blade); 8, Mx1; 9, Mx2; 10, basal portion of Mxp; 11, distal portion of Mxp; 12, P1; 13, P2; 14, P3; 15, P4.
Nota: Cephalothorax about 4 times length of urosome. Head weakly fused with 1st thoracic segment, 4th and 5th fused. Posterolateral margin of cephalothorax somewhat truncatedUrosome 4-segmented, genital segment protruded ventrally. A1 extends slightly beyond caudal rami. Gnathobase of Mx1 large, exopod absent. Mx2 with 5 lobes, the first four each bearing a large and a small seta; the distal lobe has, in addition to a large and a small seta, 2 fine setae.

Species Chiridiella chainae - Plate 2 of morphological figuresissued from : G.A. Deevey in Bull. Mar. Sc., 1974, 24 (2). [p.466, Fig.16].
Female (from 32°10'N, 64°30'W): a, habitus (lateral); b, Mx2; c, P4; d, P1; e, Mx1; f, Mxp (endopod setae not shown).
Scale at lower left for part a; at lower right for parts b-f. Scales in mm.

Species Chiridiella chainae - Plate 3 of morphological figuresissued from : G.A. Deevey in Bull. Mar. Sc., 1974, 24 (2). [p.459, Fig.11, c].
Female: c, habitus (dorsal).
Scale in mm.

Species Chiridiella chainae - Plate 4 of morphological figuresIssued from : E.L. in Proc. Zool; Inst. RAN, 1996, 268. [p.95, Fig.70]. After Grice, 1969.
Female: Mx2.

Species Chiridiella chainae - Plate 5 of morphological figuresChiridiella chainae female:
1 - Mx2 with 5 endites.
2 - Mx2 not strongly modified in comparison with typical. Setation first-fifth endites nearly of the same size.
3 - Endopod of P1 without external lobe.
4 - Exopod of P1 with 1 external spine.

Species Chiridiella chainae - Plate 6 of morphological figuresChiridiella chainae female ;
1 - Mx2 lobes without spines arranged as pincers.
2 - 3rd, 4th and 5th lobes of Mx2 with enlarged hooklike spines .
4 - A1 longer than body, reaching just beyond the caudal rami.
5 - Cephalothorax around 4 times length of urosome.
6 - P1 exopod with 1 edge spine.

This species resembles C. brachydactyla Sars, 1907, and C. subaequalis Grice & Hulsemann, 1965, but these two species have an exopod on Mx1.
For Deevey (1974, p.465) the female from off Bermuda agrees with Grice’s description, although the endopods of legs 3 and 4 were 2-segmented (1st two segments not being completely separated). Mx2 is of the btachydactyla type, but more modified and reduced and represents an intermediate stage between the brachydactyla and macrodactyla types.
