Ref.:
Fosshagen, 1970 b (p.45, figs.F,M); Huys & Boxshall, 1991 (p.56, fig.F); Boxshall & Halsey, 2004 (p.179, fig.F)
Species Placocalanus insularis - Plate 1 of morphological figuresissued from : A. Fosshagen in Sarsia, 1970, 44. [p.46, Fig.8].
Female (from 21°41'15''N, 73°46'30''W): A-B, habitus (dorsal and lateral, respectively); C, A1; D, A2; E, Md.

Nota: A1 23-segmented, reaching slightly beyond the dividing line between the cephalosome and the metasome when reflexed; the 1st segment is very strong and the posterior margin is extended into a broad flattened process, this process reaches halfway along the antenna and ends in a notch. Exopod of A2, though indistinctly segmented in the middle shows 8 segments; endopod 2-segmented. Urosme 4-segmented, the anal segment is short and partly covered by the preceding one. caudal rami with 6 setae on each ramus, the 2nd and 3rd from the inner margin haves joints near their bases, the outermost seta is short and spiniform.

Species Placocalanus insularis - Plate 2 of morphological figuresissued from : A. Fosshagen in Sarsia, 1970, 44. [p.47, Fig.9].
Female: A, Mx1; B, Mx2; C, Mxp; D, P1; E, P2; F, P3; G, P4; H, P5.

Species Placocalanus insularis - Plate 3 of morphological figuresissued from : A. Fosshagen in Sarsia, 1970, 44. [p.50, Fig.10].
Male: A, habitus (dorsal); B, right A1; C, P5 (posterior).
Nota: Right A1 geniculate, 20-segmented (counting the partly fused segment beyond the geniculation as a single one; the hinge is situated between the segments 16 and 17. urosme with 5 segments, 4th urosomal segment extends dorsally to cover the short anal segment.
