Distribution map of Falsilandrumius angulifrons by geographical zones
|
| | | Loc: | | | Namibia (in Carola, 1994), off Mauritania, Ibero-moroccan Bay, off Lisbon, Sargasso Sea, off Bermuda: Station ‘’ S’’ (32°10’N, 64°30’W), N Atlantic Mid-Ridge, ? Philippines (in C.B. Wilson, 1950) | | | N: | 6 | | | Lg.: | | | (1) F: 6,3; (137) M: 5,11; {F: 6,30; M: 5,11} | | | Rem.: | Bathypelagic. Sargasso Sea: 0-500 m (Deevey & Brooks, 1977, Station "S"); The female is described from the Atlantic Ocean (off Lisbon) and the male from the Phillipines (with females), however, neither Park nor Bradford & al. hold the identification of Wilson (1950). For Vyshkvartzeva (2001, p.93) Scaphocalanus angulifrons fits in the genus Falsilandrumius in the structure of rostrum, Md, P5, armament of Mxp syncoxa, basis and endopod of P1, and P2-P4; but description of the male and re-examination of Mx1 and Mx2 in the female are necessary for final decision. The adult male (wilson, 1950) as that of females, differs from typical of Scaphocalanus. Forehead with a crest. Posterolateral corners of thoracic segment 5 rounded. Urosome 5-segmented, as long as 2/5 of the prosome. Anal somite the shortest. Caudal rami slightly longer than anal somite, with 5 setae. Mouthparts (as in female). Endopods of P2-P3 with rows of spines (being on ventral surface according to Wilson (1950), but rather situated on posterior surface ( as in female). P5 biramous, endopod of right leg 1-segmented, laminate, longer than exopodal segment 1 sickle-like, with 1 spine; endopod of left leg slightly longer than 3-segmented exopod. | | | Last update : 05/01/2015 | |
