Nota : Genaral appearance of the body is very much as in S. medius Sars, except that the posterior corners of the 5th thoracic segment are projected somewhat more posteriorly, and are a little more pointed than in that species. Head without trace whatsoever of a crest. The 8th segment of A1 shows distinct evidence in the flange that it is composed of 3 fused segments (this segment is longer than the corresponding segment of S. medius). The very much shorter spine on the outer border of the 2nd segment of P5 will serve to distinguish californicus from medius.
