Species Scolecithrix aculeata - Plate 1 of morphological figuresIssued from : C.O. Esterly in Univ. Calif. Publs Zool., 1913, 11 (10). [Pl. 10, Figs. 2, 25].
Female (from S California): 2, abdomen and posterior part of thorax (lateral); 25, forhead (lateral).Nota: Bifid rostrum, each prong of which is heavy at the base and carries a delicate but stiff and sharp spine at the distal end.
The last thoracic segment is rounded at the sides and the dorsal margin of the segment is slightly concave.
Abdomen 4-segmented; genital segment nearly as long as the second, 3rd, and 4th together; anal segment short, about 1/10 the length of the 1st segment.
Mx2 with 4 penicillate sensory appendages; the others vermiform.
length of cephalothorax: 1.35 mm.

Species Scolecithrix aculeata - Plate 2 of morphological figuresIssued from : C.O. Esterly in Univ. Calif. Publs Zool., 1913, 11 (10). [Pl. 12, Figs. 63, 64].
Female: 63, P5; 64, exopod of P1.

Nota: P5 with 3 segments; the distal margins of the first two segments with rows or groups of fine spines, the 3rd segment carries a long heavy spine on the inner margin and a shorter one on the diatal end, both set with small teeth.
P5 length = 160 µm. P1 exopod length: 329 µm.
