Male (from Indian Ocean): 126, habitus (lateral right side); 127, P5; 128, Mx1; 129, Mx2. Nota: Head and 1st thoracic segment fused, 4th and 5th separate; large, ventrally directed rostrum. Right P5 with 3-segmented exopod and 2-segmented endopod; left P5 with 3-segmented exopod and 1-segmented endopod.

issued from : G.D. Grice & K. Hulsemann in J. Zool., 1965, 146. [p.243, Fig.16, a-d]. As Scolecithrix fowleri. Female (from NE Atlant.): a, habitus (lateral left side); b, Mx2; c, Mx2 (distal end, other side); d, Mx2 (detail of long spine-like seta). Nota: The intact Mx2 of our specimens have no sensory structures.

issued from : G.P. Farran in J. Linn. Soc., Zool., 1926, 36. [Pl.7, Figs.7-12]. As Scolecithrix fowleri. Female (from Bay of Biscay): 7-8, habitus (lateral and dorsal, respectively); 9, A1; 10, A2; 11, Mx1; 12, Mxp. Abdominal segments in the proportion 18:10:8:6. Nota: Caudal rami about as wide as long and equal to the anal segment. Rostrum long and slender, consisting of a narrow flattened plate tapered to a fine point and with a median groove from the base to the apex. A1 very short, 16-segmented ( segments 7-12, 20-22, and 23-24 fused; segments 3-12 broad, with a thin crest-like serrated anterior margin); not reaching to the thoracic segment 3. Endopod of A2 slightly longer than exopod. Cutting edge of Md with 4 strong teet; endopod and exopod about equal. Mx1: inner lobe 1 with 9 or more stout spines, inner lobes 2 and 3 absent, outer lobe 1 enlarged, with 7 long densely plumose setae and 2 small setae, endopod and exopod much reduced, the former with 2, the latter with 3 setae Mx2 with 5 lobes, lobes 1 to 3 each with a pair of setae, lobe 4 with 2 strong setae and 1 slender, lobe 5 produced without visible articulation into 1 single strong seta, the setae on remaining setae are large and subequal, and each furnished with a double row of strong clos-set serrations; terminal segment (endopod) broken, probably urnished with vermiform or amallae-bearing setae. Mxp: 1st segment equal to the 2nd and 3rd together, and the three succeeding segments gradually decreasing in size; the setae are scanty and comparatively short; 1st segment with 1 long and 1 short distal seta, the 2nd with 1 short median seta and 1 longer terminal, the remaining segments have about 3 setae each, the longest being about equal to the length of the 1st segment.
