issued from : G.O. Sars in An Account of the Crustacea of Norway. Vol. IV. Copepoda Calanoida. Published by the Bergen Museum, 1903. [Pl.XXIII]. As Bryaxis brevicornis. Female. M = Md; m = Mx1; mp1 = Mx2; mp2 = Mxp. Nota: Front obtuse without rostrum. Exopod of A2 not even attaining half the length of the endopod, and 6-segmented, last segment very small, with the apical setae rudimentary. Endopod of Md poorly developed, with only 4 apical setae. Sensory appendage of Mxp club-shaped. Caudal rami short, rounded at the tip, apical setae rather elongated. Colour bright yellow.

Distribution map of Comantenna brevicornis by geographical zones
|
| | | | | | Loc: | | | Norway, Raunefjorden (all year), S & W Ireland, Barents Sea (rare), Faroe Is., N North Sea, [! S Chilie (52°S)] | | | N: | 6 | | | Lg.: | | | (37) F: 2,6-1,7; M: 1,2; (65) F: 2,6; {F: 1,70-2,60; M: 1,20} | | | Rem.: | hyperbenthic (90-300 m). The locality record south of Chile seems surprising and needs confirmation. For Grice & Hülsemann (1970, p.189) the species C. recurvata will distinguish from C. brevicornis by the large size and the presence on long plumose setae on the terminal segment of the exopod of A2. Compare the selected characters of the different species in Comantenna females in Markhaseva & al. (2017 a,,Table 1, p.29). | | | Last update : 21/12/2017 | |
