Scottocalanus corystes  Owre & Foyo, 1967   (F,M)
Ref.:
Owre & Foyo, 1967 (p.64, Descr.F, figs.F); Grice, 1969 a (p.453, figs.M)
Species Scottocalanus corystes - Plate 1 of morphological figuresissued from : G.D. Grice in Bull. mar. Sc., 1969, 19 (2). [p.450, Figs.49-54];
Male (from Caribbean Sea): 49, habitus (lateral left side); 50, posterior end of cephalothorax (dorsal); 51, left posterolateral corner of cephalothorax; 52, P5 ( (from left side); 53, distal end of P5 (enlarged); 54, right P5 (another view).

Nota: A prominent crest on forehead; Posterolateral corner of the cephalothorax with a prominent spine. Structural details of P5, especially with 2 spines arising from the penultimate segment on the right leg.

Species Scottocalanus corystes - Plate 2 of morphological figuresissued from : H.B. Owre & M. Foyo in Fauna Caribaea, 1, Crustacea, 1: Copepoda. Copepods of the Florida Current. [p.65, Figs.417-419].
Female (from 14°55'-15°00 N, 64°50'-67°05' 'W): 417, habitus (dorsal); 418, Md (palp); 419, P5.

Nota : Head with a sharp median crest.
Head and pedigerous somite 1 fused, 4th and 5th pedigerous somites incompletely separated.
The depression between the two points of the rostrum is very shallow, and the apical projection or ‘’spine’’ from each rostral point is minute (smaller than in S. spinifrons).
Proportional lengths of urosomal somites and the caudal rami : 55 : 15 : 7 : 5 : 8 = 100.
No spinules and denticles on the distal margins of the 1st to 3rd urosomal somites.
Genital segment in dorsal view asymmetrical, expanded laterally somewhat posterior to the middle, with a distinct prominence on the left side ; in lateral view, there is a ventral projection slightly anterior to the distal margin of the somite ; the ventral distal margin does not notably overlap the next somite (as it does in S. securifrons).
Anal segment very short.
Caudal ramus longer than wide, bears in addition to the four long, plumose setae, one small seta on the inner margin and another on the outer part of the ramus, toward the dorsal surface.
A1 25-segmented, approximately as long as the body ; the 1st segment has a tiny row of spinules.
A2 : Length of the exopod about 1.5 times that of the endopod ; Endopod 2-segmented.
Md: the gnathobase has a short, curved, spinous seta on the outer edge. Next ti it are three short structures each composed of a stalk and an enlarged spinous terminal portion which is lanceolate in outline. 5 irregular teeth. On the basipod of the palp are 2 long inner setae. The exopod consists of 5 segments; each of the first four bears 1 long seta and the 5th segment has 2 terminal setae. The endopod is 2-segmented, with 2 setae on the inner edge of the 1st segment, and, 1 on the 2nd segment, a row of long spinules on the outer sub-distal portion and 9 terminal setae.
Mx1: There is no notable difference from other species. Setae are present in this arrangement: 9 on the outer lobe, 8 with some hairs on the exopod, 12 on the basipod, 12 on the 1st inner lobe, 2 on the 2nd and 3 on the 3rd.
Mx2: 1st lobe with 4 setae; 2nd, 3rd and 4th each have 3 setae, the 5th, a long spine, an ordinary seta and 2 vermiform filaments and 2 (3 ?) smaller, terminal, bud-shaped ones.
Mxp: On basipod 1 are 3 setae, 3 vermiform filaments (1 bud-like), and spinules at the distal edge; basipod 2 with a row of spinules on the inner margin and 3 setae. The endopod 5-segmented, setose.
P5 : The sub-apical spine about 2.5 times as long as the distal segment an dis coarsely spinous on each side of the distal 2/5 of its length ; the length of the short apical spine is about 1/5 that of the distal segment.

Species Scottocalanus corystes - Plate 3 of morphological figuresissued from : H.B. Owre & M. Foyo in Fauna Caribaea, 1, Crustacea, 1: Copepoda. Copepods of the Florida Current. [p.64, Fig.413].
Female: rostrum.

Species Scottocalanus corystes - Plate 4 of morphological figuresissued from : H.B. Owre & M. Foyo in Fauna Caribaea, 1, Crustacea, 1: Copepoda. Copepods of the Florida Current. [p.66, Figs.420-422].
Female: 420, forehead (lateral); 421, extremity of P5; 422, urosome (lateral).

Species Scottocalanus corystes - Plate 5 of morphological figuresissued from : H.B. Owre & M. Foyo in Fauna Caribaea, 1, Crustacea, 1: Copepoda. Copepods of the Florida Current. [p.65].
Female: Proportional lengths of the segments on A1.
