Sognocalanus confertus  Fosshagen, 1967   (F,M)
Ref.:
Fosshagen, 1967 (p.308, figs.F,M)
Species Sognocalanus confertus - Plate 1 of morphological figuresissued from : A. Fosshagen in Sarsia, 1967, 29. [p.309, Fig.1].
Female (from Sognefjorden, W Norway): habitus (lateral).

Species Sognocalanus confertus - Plate 2 of morphological figuresissued from : A. Fosshagen in Sarsia, 1967, 29. [p.310, Fig.2].
Female: A, habitus (dorsal); B, rostrum (ventral view); C, genital segment (ventral); D, A1; E, A2; F, Md; G, Mx1; H, Mx2; I, Mxp; J, P1; K, P2; L, P3.

Nota: A rostral plate with 2 terminal points present. Urosome 4-segmented. caudal rami short. A1 23-segmented (segment 1 and 2 partly fused, segments 8 and 9 as well as 24 and 25 fused). A2 exopod and endopod of nearly same length; exopod 5-segmented, with 4 terminal setae and 4 long setae on the inner border; endopod with long terminal setae. Md: denticulate process slender with sharp teeth on the cutting edge; outermost tooth conspicuously long and sharp; biramous palp with a 2-segmented basipod, 2nd segment bearing 2 curved setae; exopod and endopod of equal length; exopod indistinctly segmented, bearing 5 long setae; endopod 2-segmented, with terminal segment elongated carrying 5 long setae distally. mx1: one inner lobe bears 3 short setae; 2 distal lobes (apparently the endopod and the exopod) bear 2 and 3 setae respectively; Outer border carries 5 long setae. Mx2 strongly built; 1st basipodal segment with 4 well-developed lobes with setae, the distal lobe bearing the strongest setae; 2nd basipodal segment bears 1 strong claw-like seta which has 2 rows of fine hair-like structures on its distal part; endopod carries 1 claw-like seta and 4 setae of a smaller size. Mxp endopod 3-segmented. P5 absent.

Species Sognocalanus confertus - Plate 3 of morphological figuresissued from : A. Fosshagen in Sarsia, 1967, 29. [p.311, Fig.3].
Male: A-B, habitus (lateral and dorsal, respectvely); C, A1; D, Md; E, Mx1; F, Mx2; G, Mxp; H, P5; I, P1.

Nota: Rostrum present, somewhat reduced. head and 1st thoracic segment separated. Urosome 5-segmented, 1st segment slightly asymmetrical with a protrusion on left side. Left A1 22-segmented; right A1 21-segmented (18th and 19th segments fused); both antennae well equiped with sensory appendages along their proximal halves. A2 as in female. Md: denticulate process reduced, ending in two points; exopod 5-segmented. mx1 duffers from female in having 2 inner lobes. Mx2 small and rudimentary. Mxp smaller than in female; endopod 5-segmented with 2 curved setae on distal segment; penultimate segment bears 1 curved seta distally. P5 uniramous; left leg 5-segmented, styliform and elongated; right leg 3-segmented, small and rudimentary.
