        Spinocalanidae ( Family )
            Spinocalanus ( Genus )
Spinocalanus abruptus  Grice & Hulsemann, 1965   (F)
Grice & Hulsemann, 1965 (p.223, 227, Descr.F, figs.F); Damkaer, 1975 (p.16, 57, Rem.); Brodsky & al., 1983 (p.299, figs.F)
Species Spinocalanus abruptus - Plate 1 of morphological figuresissued from : G.D. Grice & K. Hulsemann in J. Zool., 1965, 146. [p.228, Fig.6, m-p].
Female (from NE Atlant.): m, posterior part of cephalothorax and urosome (dorsal); n, Mxp (basal portion); o, P1; p, P2.
Nota: Mx1 with 4 setae on inner lobes 2 and 3, respectively; 4 or 5 setae on 2nd basal segment; 15 or 16 setae on endopod; 11 setae on exopod.
2 rows of small spines on 1st basal segment of Mxp.

NZ: 2

Distribution map of Spinocalanus abruptus by geographical zones
NE Atlant. (32°29'N, 20°09'W; 30°01'N, 23°00.7'W; 40°03.5'N, 19°57'W), W Indian
N: 2
(13) F: 1,47-1,29; {F: 1,29-1,47}
Rem.: bathypelagic (1000-2800 m).
For Grice & Hulsemann (1965, p.228) the absence of a comb of spines on the 2nd basal segment of Mxp will distinguish this species from S. abyssalis Giesbrecht (1888) and S. caudatus Sars (1920).
