Distribution map of Euchirella galeatea by geographical zones
|
| | | | | | | | | Loc: | | | S Atlant. (off Tristan da Cunha, off St. Helena Is.) (in Wolfenden, 1911), Laccadive Is., off Sri Lanka (E & SW), Indian, Bay of Bengal, Andaman Sea, Indonesia-Malaysia, Flores Sea, Philippines, China Seas (East China Sea, South China Sea), Taiwan (SW), Japan (Izu, NE), S Aleutian Is., Pacif. (W equatorial), Pacif. (tropical), California, off Galapagos, N Chile.
Type locality: Pacific (eastern part). | | | N: | 29 | | | Lg.: | | | (37) F: 6,7-5,2; M: 5,33-4,7; (41) F: 5,9-5,2; (47) F: 6,4; (110) F: 6,7-5,5; M: 5,25-4,7; (137) F: 5,86; M: 5,33; (142) F: 6,5; (855) F: 5,3; (1122) F: 5,3; (1257) F: 5,85-6,0; {F: 5,20-6,70; M: 4,70-5,33}
The mean female size is 5.869 mm (n = 11; SD = 0.6116) and the mean male size is 5.062 mm (n = 5; SD = 0.3321). The size ratio (male : female) is 0.86. | | | Rem.: | epi-mesopelagic. The female resembles that of E. bitumida, but is distinguishable from the latter. The female can be confused with E. grandicornis (See remarks in Vaupel Klein, 1984a, p.39). According to Vervoort (1949, p.34) the Indo-Malaysian specimens agree with Sewell's (1929) description, but differ from Giesbrecht's account of East-Pacific specimens by the shape of the urosome (perhaps a different species). | | | Last update : 22/02/2021 | |
