Ref.:
Chen & Hwang, 1999 (p.266, figs.F,M); Ohtsuka, El-Sherbiny & Ueda, 2000 (p.8: Rem.)
Species Tortanus (Atortus) taiwanicus - Plate 1 of morphological figuresissued from : Q.-C. & J.-S. Hwang in Crustaceana, 1999, 72 (3). [p.267, Fig.1].
Female (from Hualien, Taiwan): A, habitus (dorsal); B, idem (lateral right side); C, forehead (ventral); D, genital segment (ventral); E, A2; F, Md; G, Mx1; H, Mx2.

Nota: Rostrum absent. A small process present anterior to the base of 1st A1 (from lateral view). Multilobed eye prominet (red in fresh specimens). Head and 1st thoracic segment separate, 4th and 5th fused and protrude dorsally in their middle parts. Postero-lateral margins of last thoracic segment asymmetrical and rounded. Urosome 2-segmented. Anal segment completely fused with caudal rami. Endopod of A2 separated from 2nd basipodal segment, proximal segment with outer terminal setule and some setules on the inner middle part, apical segment with 6 terminal setae; exopod 2-segmented, apical segment with 4 terminal setae. mandibular blade with 4 teeth of which 3 are bifid. 1st inner lobe of Mx1 with 12 setae and setules, 2nd inner lobe with 3 large setae.

Species Tortanus (Atortus) taiwanicus - Plate 2 of morphological figuresissued from : Q.-C. & J.-S. Hwang in Crustaceana, 1999, 72 (3). [p.268, Fig.2].
Female: A, Mxp; B-E, P1-P4 (posterior); F, P5 (posterior).
Nota: P5 rudimentary: proximal segments of right and left legs fused to form common base, apical segment lamellar and quadratic, bearing a seta distally on outer margin.

Male: G, geniculate portion of right A1 (dorsal); H, habitus (dorsal); I, urosome (dorsal); J, urosome (lateral right side); K, P5 (posterior); L, basipod and 1st exopodal segment of right P5 (anterior).
Nota: Urosome 5-segmented. Genital segment symmetrical, 2ndurosomal segment furnished on right side with postero-lateral and postero-ventral processes of unequal size, each with a small setule. Right A1 geniculate (serrate ridge on 18th segment).
