Nota: One female reported from the Florida Current, probably stage V. The specimen fits Rosendorn's description in detail except in the length of spines on P2 and 3, the latter being the one worthy of note. Rosendorn's illustration shows the lateral spines on exopod 3 of P3 about equal length, and Kiefer (1929) stated that the distal spine is short, no longer than the proximal one (in our specimen the distal spine is longer than the proximal one).

Remarks

Mesopelagic.
The forms, cited as O. frigida from the subtropical Atlantic and the Mediterranean Sea are considered to belong to this species.
Nishida (1985, p.72) points to this species is distinguished from closely allied O. frigida by the presence of 1 inner marginal seta on the exopodal segment 1 of P2-P4, the short outer marginal spines on the exopodal segment 3 of P3-P4 and the presence of 2 rudimentary spinules on the outer margin of the exopodal segment 3 of P3.
