Australopsyllus fallax  McKinnon, 1994   (F)
Ref.:
McKinnon, 1994 (p.29, Descr.F, figs.F); Ho, Dojiri, Hendler & Deets, 2003 (p.589: tab.1); Boxshall & Halsey, 2004 (p.691)
Species Australopsyllus fallax - Plate 1 of morphological figuresissued from : McKinnon in Sarsia, 1994, 79. [p.28, Fig.1].
Female (from 38°16.5'S, 144°40.8'E): A-B, habitus (dorsal and lateral, respectively) with egg sacs; C-D, urosome (lateral and dorsal, respectively).

Nota : Cephalosome incompletely fused to the 1st pedigerous segment ; the 3 separate pedigerous somites separate, the last is greatly reduced. Head produced anteroventrally into a broad, blunt rostrum, fused with the cephalic shield. The margin of the cephalic shield is perforated by numerous pores. The head carries only the paired A1 and a vestigial labrum, all other cephalic appendages being lost (no trace of scars associated with the location of lost limbs). Urosome 3-segmented, comprising the 5th pedigerous somite, genital double-somite, and anelongate anal segment (4.7 times longer than wide), without anus.. The genital complex has the dorsal integument fused, but the ventral integument is incompletely fused ; the large paired egg seacs each contain about 400 eggs (each of 0.050 mm). An antero-lateral lappet with 2 dorsally recurved spines represents P6. Caudal rami 2.9 times longer than wide, each carrying 2 setae on outer margin, 3 terminally, and 1 dorsal (the left caudal ramus of the holotype bears an abnormal terminal seta.

Species Australopsyllus fallax - Plate 2 of morphological figuresissued from : McKinnon in Sarsia, 1994, 79. [p.29, Fig.2].
Female: A1.

Nota : A1 8-segmented (autapomorphy), with armature formula 2, 4, 2, 3, 2,1, 3, 8 elements ; the 2nd segment has complex folding, representing the incomplete fusion of probably 4 segments, similarly segments 3, 4, and 5 represent fusion of 2, 2, and 3 segments respectively.

Species Australopsyllus fallax - Plate 3 of morphological figuresissued from : McKinnon in Sarsia, 1994, 79. [p.30, Fig.3].
Female: A-C, P1 to P3 (anterior); D, P4 (anterior); E, P5 (anterior).

Species Australopsyllus fallax - Plate 4 of morphological figuresissued from : J.-s. Ho, M. Dojiri, G. Hendler & G.B. Deets in J. Crust. Biol., 2003, 23 (3). [p.589, Table 1].
Characters of female;
Armature formulae for legs are presented as outer margin first, with Roman numerals for the number of spines, and Arabic numerals for setae. Data and armature formulae of the legs based on information from McKinnon (1994). Question mark (?) follows character that was not clearly described or illustated, and information that was based on damaged material.
