Distribution map of Aegisthus spinulosus by geographical zones
|
| | | | | | Loc: | | | Angola, Moroccan coast, Cape Ghir, off Azores, W Ireland, 53°58'N, 12° 28'W, Philippines, China Seas, N Samoa Is., E Pacif. | | | N: | 11 | | | Lg.: | | | (58) F: 1,74; (618) F: 2,12; {F: 1,74-2,12} | | | Rem.: | The validity of this species species is doubted by Lang (1948) who considers it a juvenile of A. aculeatus. Boxshall (1979, p.206 ) who has not been in the occasion to observe specimens keeps the species valid for the moment, and comments the significant differences with A. aculeatus: absence of chitinous reticulations from the cephalothorax, the complete subdivision of the genital complex, the armature of Mxp and P6. According to Conroy-Dalton & Huys (1999) this species is incertae sedis. There are several similarities between this species and Andromax muricatus.
Identification characters: Female: Rostrum ending in short pointed. Anterior prosme without chitinuous net. Posterior margin of dorsal metasomal segments with a pair of spines. | | | Last update : 25/10/2022 | |
