hyperbenthic. For Alvarez (1985, p.955) Mx1 shows a important feature: the 2-segmented condition of the exopod, which has a complete suture with 1 seta in the outer margin; this is a remarkable feature not observed in any other copepod group. The possession of the 2-segmented exopod (plesiomorphic character) is an indication that their phylogenetic position lies close to the base of the podoplean lineage.
