Nota: Prosome apparently 4-segmented with the 1st free thoracic somite entirely covered by a carapace-like extension from the posterior margin of the cephalosome. Nauplius eye not observed. Urosome 6-segmented. Surface of prosome and all urosomal segments with a squamose-like ornamentation.

For Alvarez (1985, p.955) Mx1 shows a important feature: the 2-segmented condition of the exopod, which has a complete suture with 1 seta in the outer margin; this is a remarkable feature not observed in any other copepod group. The possession of the 2-segmented exopod (plesiomorphic character) is an indication that their phylogenetic position lies close to the base of the podoplean lineage. | | | Last update : 29/12/2014 | |
