Oncaea setosa  Heron, 1977   (F,M)
Ref.:
Heron, 1977 (p.73, Descr.F, figs.F); Malt, 1982 (p.189, figs.F,M, Juv.5 F)
Species Oncaea setosa - Plate 1 of morphological figuresissued from : G.A. Heron in Antarct. Res. Ser. Washington, 1977, 26. [p.74, Fig.22, a-n].
Female (from SW Pacific-Antarctic area): a, habitus (lateral; scale bar: X); b, posterior of last prosomal segment and urosome (lateral; scale bar: Y); c, urosome (dorsal; lacking caudal setae; scale bar: Y); d, right A2 (scale bar: Y); e, labrum (scale bar: Z); f, right Md (scale bar: Z); g, right Mx1 (scale bar: Z); h, left Mx2 (scale bar: Z); i, left Mxp (scale bar: Y); j-m, P1 to P4 (scale bar: Y); n, P5 (scale bar: Z).

Species Oncaea setosa - Plate 2 of morphological figuresIssued from : S.J. Malt in Bull. Br. Mus. nat. Hist. (Zool), 1982, 42 (3). [p.203, Fig.9, a-e].
Male (from 20°N, 21°W): a-b, habitus (dorsal and lateral, respectively); c, urosome (ventral); d, A1; e, Mxp (distal spine missing).

Nota: Ratio of prosome and urosome lengths 1.5 : 1.
- Proportional lengths of urosomal segments and caudal rami 12 : 47 : 3 : 3 : 3 : 18 : 14.
- Genital lappets extending postero-laterally into acute points ;
Mouthparts like those of female, except A1 and Mxp.
- A1 4-segmented.
- Mxp 3-segmented ; 2 nd segment bearing 2 spines on internal surface and 3 groups of setules ; terminal claw bearing a stout internal basal spine.
- P1 and P2 natatory legs like those of female, but terminal spines of 3rd and 4th exopodites longer than those of female, being respectively 1.5 times and twice the lengththe length of terminal segments
- 2 spines representing P5, borne on tubercle not clearly delimited from body.

Species Oncaea setosa - Plate 3 of morphological figuresIssued from : S.J. Malt in Bull. Br. Mus. nat. Hist. (Zool), 1982, 42 (3). [p.202, Fig.8].
Female (from 20°N, 21°W): a-b, habitus (dorsal and lateral, respectively); c, urosome (dorsal); d, A1; e, A2; f, Md; g, Mx1; h, Mx2; i, Mxp; j, labrum (lamella missing); k, P1; l, P2; m, P3; n, P4.

Nota: Appendages of O. setosa similar to those described by Heron with only minor differences apparent.

Distribution map of Oncaea setosa by geographical zones
Loc:
Antarct. (SW Pacif.), off NE Cape Verde Is.
N: 2
Lg.:
(679) F: 0,62-0,58; (680) F: 0,58-0,42; M: 0,58; {F: 0,42-0,62; M: 0,58}
Rem.: This species was sampled between 3960 and 3980 m in the Atlantic Ocean and between 1000 and 2000 m in Antarctica. 3980-3962 m (NE Cape Verde Is.).
For Malt (1982, p.189) the female differs from Heron’s description in some minor details : the terminal spines of the 3rd and 4th endopodites are longer in proportion to their terminal segments in the material from NE Cape Verde Islands. The male and the 5th copepodite female have not previously been described.
