Brackish, estuary. In South Africa this species is abundant in the estuaries of St Lucia and Richards Bay, specimens have been found in water with salinity ranging from about 10 p.1000 and 38 p.1000. For Marsh (1933, p.41) this species is closely related with P. salinus and P. hessei, but clearly distinguished by details of the P5 male. Bradford-Grieve & al., (1999) raise a doubt on the synonymy of P. charteri. In Improcerus species group, after Walter & al. 2006, p.203.
