Syn.: ? Oothrix bidentata Chen & Zhang, 1965 (p.58, figs.F); Shih & Young, 1995 (p.71)
Ref.:
Ohtsuka, Boxshall & Fosshagen, 2003 (p.54, figs.F,M)
Species Neoscolecithrix japonica - Plate 1 of morphological figuresissued from : S. Ohtsuka, G.A. Boxshall & A. Fosshagen in Bull. Natn. Sci. Mus., Tokyo, Ser. A, 2003, 29 (2). [p.59, Fig.4].
Female (from Ie Island, Okinawa): A, habitus (dorsal); B, idem (lateral right side); C, Prosomal end and urosome (lateral right side); D, anal somite and left caudal ramus (ventral); E, genital double-somite (ventral); F, idem (lateral left side); G, A1 (segments 1 to 13= ancestral I-XVI); H, A1 (segments 14 to 24 = ancestral XVI-XXVIII); I, idem (terminal compound segment (= ancestral XXVII-XXVIII); J, exopod of A2 (arrowheads showing sexual differences, compare to fig.1L); K, endopod of A2 (arrowheads showing sexual differences, compare to Fig 1K); L, Md (mandibular palp, arrowheads sowing sexual differences, compare to Fig.1N); M, P5 (anterior).
Nota: A1 24-segmented. Mx1, Mx2, Mxp and P1-P4 similar to those of male. P5 with right leg longer than left leg. Anal somite almost telescoped into preceding somite. Caudal rami as ornemented as in male.

Species Neoscolecithrix japonica - Plate 2 of morphological figuresissued from : S. Ohtsuka, G.A. Boxshall & A. Fosshagen in Bull. Natn. Sci. Mus., Tokyo, Ser. A, 2003, 29 (2). [p.55, Fig.1].
Male: A, habitus (dorsal); B, idem (lateral right side); C, rostrum; D, prosomal ends and urosome (dorsal); E, idem (lateral right side); F, anal somite and right caudal ramus (ventral); G, A1; H, distal large aesthetasc on 3rd segment of A1 (ancestral V); I, spiniform element on 9th segment of A1 (ancestral XIII); J, distal compound segment of A1 (ancestral XXVII-XXVIII); K, A1; K, A2; L, exopod of A2; M, md (masticatory edge); N, Md (mandibular palp).
Nota: Gonopore posteriorly opening at left lateral corner of the genital somite. Anal somite small, almost telescoped into preceding somite dorsally. Caudal rami symmetrical, with minute seta I at midlength and seta VII ventrally near base of seta VI. A1 23-segmented.

Species Neoscolecithrix japonica - Plate 3 of morphological figuresissued from : S. Ohtsuka, G.A. Boxshall & A. Fosshagen in Bull. Natn. Sci. Mus., Tokyo, Ser. A, 2003, 29 (2). [p.57, Fig.2].
Male: A, Mx1 (praecoxa and coxa); B, Mx1 (basis and rami); C, phoront of apostome ciliate (?) on maxillulary seta; D, Mx2 (elements on 2nd coxal endite and endopod omitted); E, brush-like sensory seta on 1st coxal endite of Mx2; F, 2nd coxal endite of Mx2; G, endopod of Mx2 (asterisk and arrowhead meaning largest vermiform sensory seta illustrated in \"I\" and rudimentary element in \"H\", respectively; H, rudimentary element on endopod of Mx2; I, largest vermiform sensory seta of endopod of Mx2; J, Mxp (setae on endopod omitted); K, endopod of Mxp.

Species Neoscolecithrix japonica - Plate 4 of morphological figuresissued from: Q.-c Chen & S.-z. Zhang in Studia Marina Sinica, 1965, 7. [Pl.18, 1-2]. As Oothrix bidentata
Female (E China Sea): 1, habitus (dorsal); 2, idem (lateral left side).

Species Neoscolecithrix japonica - Plate 5 of morphological figuresissued from : S. Ohtsuka, G.A. Boxshall & A. Fosshagen in Bull. Natn. Sci. Mus., Tokyo, Ser. A, 2003, 29 (2). [p.58, Fig.3].
Male: A, P1 (anterior); B, P2 (anterior); C, P3 (anterior); D, P4 (anterior); E, P5 (anterior); F, right exopod of P5 (anterior); G, terminal exopodal segment of left P5 (anterior, arrowheads indicating minute outer spines).

Nota: P5 with right leg longer than left leg; both coxae and intercoxal sclerites fused to form common base; basis unarmed; exopod 1-segmented, right exopod approximately 1.2 times as long as left exopod, similarly ornamented, with 1outer, 1 inner and 2 terminal spines; proximal outer margin furnished with long setules (most missing, but only scars present).

For Ohtsuka & al; (2003, p.60) the 5th copepodid stage described as Oothrix bidentata by Chen & Zhang (1965) may be identical to the present species in consideration of the prosomal ends and female P5. However it differs from japonica in the much longer A1 reaching to the last metasomal segment.
