Maemonstrilla hoi Suarez-Morales & McKinnon, 2014 (F)
| | | | | | Ref.: | | | Suarez-Morales & McKinnon, 2014 (p.323, Descr.F, figs.F, Rem.) | Issued from : E. Suarez-Morales & A.D. McKinnon in Zootaxa, 2014, 3779 (3). [p.324, Fig.14]. Female (from 38°16.085'S, 144°40.0815'E): A, habitus (dorsal); B, cephalic area of holotype showing cuticular reticulation and oral papilla (lateral); C, urosome showing P5 and tongue-like posteroventral process of genital compound somite (arrow), lateral view; D, detail of insertion of distal setae of P5. Scale bars: A = 500 µm; B, C = 100 µm; D = 50 µm. Nota: Cephalothorax short, representing up to 56 % of total body length (measured from the anterior end of cephalothorax to the posterior end of the anal somite), reticulate on dorsal and ventral surfaces. Reticulation not reaching pedigerous somites 2-4 but present on antennular segments. Oral papilla conical, nearly straight, protruding ventrally, located antreriorly, about 19 % of way back along ventral surface of cephalothorax. Pair of relatively large ocelli present, pigment cups separated by less tha 1/2 eye diameter; ventral cup slightly smaller than lateral cups. Forehead with wide medial rounded protrusion. 3 pairs of nipple-like cuticular processes on anterior ventral surface posterior to A1 bases, with adjacent pattern of transverse cuticular striae on preoral surface (fig.14B). A1 unusually inserted 15 % of way back along cephalothorax, at same level as ocelli. 1st pedigerous somite incorporated into cephalothorax. Urosome consisting of 4 somites: 5th peddigerous somite, compound genital somite with incomplete transverse suture, and 2 free postgenital somites (preanal and anal somites).

Issued from : E. Suarez-Morales & A.D. McKinnon in Zootaxa, 2014, 3779 (3). [p.325, Fig.15]. Female: A, urosome showing P5, ovigerous spines, posteroventral protuberance of genital compound somite, genital pore (arrow) and caudal seta VII (arrow), ventral view; B, left A1 (dorsal view). Scale bars: A, B = 100 µm. Nota: A1 4-segmented, with weak division between segments 3 and 4, 3rd segment represented by inner lobe partially fused with succeeding 4th segment (fig.15B). High reticular ridges only on 2nd and proximal part of 3rd antennular segments, appearing as marginal keel-like structures (arrowed in fig. 15B). P5 paired, rod-like, with 2 lightly setulate setae, 1 distal, 1 subdistal. P5 reaching posterior margin of anal somite. Ventral surface of genital somite bearing ovigerous spines arising from low, conical projection of anterior half. Posterior half of genital compound somite with tongue-like ventral protuberance (arrowed in fig.14C). Copulatory opening on ventral surface at posterior base of ovigerous spine cone (arrowed in fig.15A). Tips of ovigerous spines reaching to between P2 and posterior margin of cephalothorax. Spines cylindrical, smooth and straight in proximal 3/4; distal 1/4 moderately swollen and tapering distally. Caudal rami subrectangular, weakly divergent, approximately 1/6 times longer than wide, each ramus bearing 6 setae. Inner dorsal seta thinnest (seta VII of Huys & Boxshall, 1991, p.30).

Issued from : E. Suarez-Morales & A.D. McKinnon in Zootaxa, 2014, 3779 (3). [p.326, Fig.16]. Female: A-D, P1 to P4, respectively; E, ornamentation of outermost spine of 3rd exopodal segment of P2. Scale bars: A-D = 100 µm; E = 25 µm. Nota: Armature formula of P1 to P4 as in M. ohtsukai.

* Body length measured from the anterior end of cephalothorax to the posterior end of the anal somite. | | | Rem.: | After Suarez-Morales & McKinnon (2014, p.328)this species is assignable to the M. hyottoko species group (Grygier & Ohtsuka, 2008). It displays cuticular reticulation only on the cephalothorax and A1, in contrast to the extensive reticulation on the cephalothorax, lateral sides of the trunk, dorsum of the urosomites, and caudal rami shown by most other members of this species group. | | | Last update : 17/01/2015
