Species Pilarella longicornis - Plate 1 of morphological figuresissued from : S. Ohtsuka, G.A. Boxshall & H.S.J. Roe in Bull. nat. Hist. Lond. (Zool.), 1994, 60 (2). [p.159, Fig.37].
Female (paratype, coll. from Sao Paulo, Brasil): A, genital double-somite (ventral); B, apical endopod segment of A2; C, praecoxal arthrite of Mx1; D, endopod of Mx1; E, praecoxal endites of Mx2; F, tip of endopod of Mxp.
Scales in mm.

Nota: A1 21-segmented, asymmetrical, left longer than right and reaching to end of caudal rami.
2nd endopod segment of A2 with 3 setae of unequal lengths at midlength and 5 setae terminally; exopod indistinctly 7-segmented.
Praecoxal arthrite of Mx1 with 6 elements (5 setae and 1 process); coxal epipodite with 5 setae; endopod with 2 setae of unequal lengths. 1st praecoxal endite with 2 setae and vestigial element; 2nd praecoxal endite with 2 spinulose setae; basal spine with 2 rows of spinules.
P1with 1 outer spine on 3rd exopodal segment.
P4 with short inner seta on coxa.
P5: coxae separate from small intercoxal sclerite; endopod represented by 1 relatively long seta; exopod and basis separate; exopod 1-segmented with 1 short spine on outer middle margin and 1 short outer and 1 long inner spine terminally.
Genital double-somite wider than long; genital system symmetrical; genital aperture slit-like, located just posterior to mid-length; large circular gonopores present at outermost extremity of genital aperture and small copulatory pore at innermost extremity; copulatory and receptacle ducts short; seminal receptacle relatively small, located medial to gonopore.
Caudal rami slightly asymmetrical, with right ramus narrower and just shorter than left, with setae II and III relatively long.

Species Pilarella longicornis - Plate 2 of morphological figuresissued from : M.P.J. Alvarez in Reta bras. Zool., S Paulo, 1985, 3 (4). [p.191, Figs.1-6
Female (from 28°36'S, 47°55'W): 1-2, habitus (dorsal and lateral, respectively); 3, forehead (lateral); 4, genital segment (ventral); 6, anal segment and caudal rami (lateral and dorsal, respectively).

Species Pilarella longicornis - Plate 3 of morphological figuresissued from : M.P.J. Alvarez in Reta bras. Zool., S Paulo, 1985, 3 (4). [p.192, Figs.7-12].
Female: 7, left A1; 8, right A1; 9, A2; 10, Md (mandibular palp); 11, Md (gnathobase); 12, Mx1.

Nota: A1 asymmetrical, both 21-segmented; right A1 with segments 2nd to 10th very short. Md endopod absent. Mx1 with 5 spine-like setae on the 1st internal lobe, 1 setose seta on the 2nd internal lobe, 2 setae on the reduced endopod, 5 setae on the 1st external lobe, and 3 terminal very long setae on the exopod.

Species Pilarella longicornis - Plate 4 of morphological figuresissued from : M.P.J. Alvarez in Reta bras. Zool., S Paulo, 1985, 3 (4). [p.193, Figs.13-19].
Female: 13, Mx2; 14, Mxp; 15-18, P1 to P4; 19, P5.

Nota: Mx2 with 2 strong setae on each of the two lobes of the 1st and 2nd basipods; endopod 4-segmented with 1 strong spine-like spinose on the 1st segment and in the three other segments respectively 4, 2, and 2 long, strong setae provided with 2 series of spinules each. Endopod of Mxp 5-segmented with respectively 4, 4, 3, 3, and 2 setae, some of which with spinules.
