Species Augaptilus anceps - Plate 1 of morphological figuresissued from : O. Tanaka in Publs Seto Mar. Biol. Lab., 1964, XII (1). [p.76, Fig.211].
Female: a, habitus (dorsal); b, forehead (left lateral side); c, last thoracic segment and urosome (left lateral side); d, rostrum (frontal view); e, A2; f, Md; g, Mx1; h, Mxp; i, P1; j, P5.
Nota: The urosome segments and furca are in the proportional lengths as 47:12:11:30 = 100.

Male: k, P5. Nota: The urosome segments and furca are in the proportional lengths as 20:17:15:13:12:23 = 100. The furcal rami 4 times as long as wide. Right A1 exceeds the end of the furca by terminal 1 or 2 segments. Grasping of A1 on the left side. A2: endopod and exopod of about equal lengths.

Species Augaptilus anceps - Plate 2 of morphological figuresIssued from : G.O. Sars in Résult. Camp. Scient. Prince Albert I, 69, pls.1-127 (1924). [Pl.LXXVII, figs.19-22].
Female: 19, habitus (dorsal); 20, forehead (lateral); 21, P5; 22, posterior part of urosome (dorsal).

Species Augaptilus anceps - Plate 3 of morphological figuresissued from : G.P. Farran in Fish. Ire. Sci. Invest., 1906, II [1908]. [Pl. VIII, Figs.15-19]. .
Female (from 54°57'N, 10°51''W): 15, urosome (dorsal); 16, habitus (dorsal); 17, part of exopod of A2; 18, P5 (spine of 2nd exopodal segment); 19,Mx1.

Distribution map of Augaptilus anceps by geographical zones
Loc:
S Brazil, Canary Is., off Morocco-Mauritania, Azores, off Bermuda: Station ‘’ S’’ (32°10’N, 64°30’W), Sargasso Sea, off NW Ireland, S Strait of Davis, W Medit. (Ligurian Sea, Tyrrhenina Sea), Indian (Arabian Sea), China Seas (South China Sea), Philippines, Pacif. (tropical), ? California, SW Galapagos, NE Easter Is., N Chile
N: 14
Lg.:
(1) F: 3,6; (24) F: 3,75; (199) F: 3,57; {F: 3,57-3,75}
Rem.: meso-bathypelagic. Known to occur above 600 m depth, probably also deeper (Matthews, 1972). Overall Depth Range in Sargasso Sea: 0-2000 m (Deevey & Brooks, 1977, Station "S");
Fleminger (1967 a) suggests, with doubt, that this species would be synonym to Augaptilus lamellifer.
For Itoh (1970 a, fig.2, from co-ordonates) the Itoh's index value from mandibular gnathobase = 1265.
