Male: i, P5. Nota: The urosome segments and furca are in the proportional lengths as 21:16:13:13:13:24 = 100. Left A1 exceeds the end of the furca by distal 5 segments. The furcal rami about 2 times as long as wide.

Rem.: Meso-bathypelagic. Known to occur at 1000 m and deeper, occasionally as high as the uppermost 100 m after Matthews (1972, p.28). Sampling depth (Antarct., sub-Antarct.): 0-2000 m. Sargasso Sea: 500-2000 m (Deevey & Brooks, 1977, Station "S");
According to Sewell (1947, p.231) Giesbrecht has noted the presence of rows of small spinules around the articulations of the marginal spines of the exopodal segments of P1. In this character bullfer differs from all other species of the genus.
