Euaugaptilus pachychaeta  Matthews, 1972   (F)
Ref.:
Matthews, 1972 (p.5, 38, Descr.F, figs.F); Bradford-Grieve & al., 1999 (p.882, 940, figs.F)
Species Euaugaptilus pachychaeta - Plate 1 of morphological figuresissued from : J.B.L. Matthews in Bull. Br. Mus. (Nat. Hist.) Zool., 1972, 24 (1). [p.6, Fig.1].
Female (from 5°49'N, 3°24'E): A-B, habitus (lateral and dorsal, respectively); C, rostrum (antero-ventral view); D, Md (mandibular gnathobase); E, modified setae on protopodite of Mxp; F, distal outer border of exopodite of P1.
A-B to scale I; C-E to scale II; F to scale III.

Nota: Prosome length 4.1 times the length of the urosome. head and 1st thoracic segment separated, 4th and 5th thoracic segments fused.
Rostrum with 2 filaments of moderate length.
The hump in the midveventral line just anterior to the A2 is moderately well developed.
Genital segment slightly swollen laterally but more distinctly so ventrally with a small papilla in the region of the genital opening.
2nd urosomal segment short, being only 1/5 the length of the anal segment.
Caudal ramus approximately twice as long as it is broad and bears 6 setae. (all bear setules which appear plumose towards the tips of the setae).
A1 25-segmebted, the last six reaching past the end of the urosome. None of the setae is markedly plumose.

Species Euaugaptilus pachychaeta - Plate 2 of morphological figuresissued from : J.B.L. Matthews in Bull. Br. Mus. (Nat. Hist.) Zool., 1972, 24 (1). [p.7, Fig.2].
Female: A, A2; B, Md; C, Mx1; D, Mx2; E, Mxp; F, P1; G, P2; H, P3; I, P4; J, P5.

Nota: A2: Exo and endopod subequal; the last two segments of the exo fused; all the setae on the exopod, but not those on the endopod, possess long and often quite thick setules, making these setae very olumose in appearance.
Md: gnathobase long, thin, with 6 curved yeeyj set very obliquely in pairs.
Mx1: Endopod distinct from the basipodite and all the lobes bear setae
mxp: A specific character with the presence of 3 thickened setae with swollen bases densely covered with spinules; two of these modifued setae are situated on the proximal part of the basipodite and the third, with its tip transformed into a hook and lying across the other two, arises from the distal part of the coxopodite.
Exopod 2 and 3 of P3 and P4 not extending distolaterally into outer rounded lobes.
Basis of P5 with distolateral outer seta short, not extending beyond distal border of exopodite 3.

Distribution map of Euaugaptilus pachychaeta by geographical zones
Loc:
E Atlant. equatorial (off Nigeria)
N: 1
Lg.:
(308) F: 7; {F: 7,00}
Rem.: Mesopelagic. Recorded in a vertical haul from 600 m to the surface (Matthews, 1972).
According to Matthews (1972, p.9) this species seems the most related E. tenuispinus, E. marginatus, E. grandicornis and E. squamatus.

In ''squamatus" Group after Matthews (1972, p.64) {See remarks in Euaugaptilus genus}.
