Species Pontoptilus robustus - Plate 1 of morphological figuresissued from : G.D. Grice & K. Huisemann in Proc. U.S. natn. Mus., 1967, 122 (3583). [p.62, Figs.248-250; p.63, Figs.251-258].
Female (from Indian Ocean): 248, habitus (dorsolateral left side); 249, forehead (dorsal); 250, 5th thoracic segment and urosome (dorsal); 251, A2; 252, Md (mandibular palp); 253, Md (masticatory edge); 254, Mx1; 255, Mx2; 256; Mxp; 257, P1; 258, P5.

Nota: Head and 1st thoracic segment separate, 4th and 5th fused.
- Posterior lateral corner of last thoracic segment protruded, rounded.
- Rostrum absent.
- A1 25-segmented, more or less (by last 3 segments) exceeding the caudal rami.
- This is the first record in the Indian Ocean

Species Pontoptilus robustus - Plate 2 of morphological figuresIssued from : G.O. Sars in Résult. Camp. Scient. Prince Albert I, 69, pls.1-127 (1924). [Pl.CXI, figs.6-8].
Male: 6, habitus (dorsal); 7, Mx1; 8, P5.

Nota: P5 with exopod segment 3 more or less rounded, with a little apical spine and an minute outer distal spine.

For Grice & Hulsemann (1967) this species closely resembles P. muticus. Distinguished by its larger size, long A1, and protuding 5th thoracic segment. The male was described from NE Atlantic by Sars (1905, 1925) and the female from NW Indian Ocean.
