Acartiella kempi  Sewell, 1914   (F,M)
Syn.: Acartia (Acartiella) kempi : Sewell, 1932 (p.393); 1948 (p.324, 429); Wellershaus, 1969 (p.269, 270, figs.F,M); Silas, 1972 (p.650); Khalaf, 1991 (p.86: tab.1, Rem.)

Species Acartiella kempi - Plate 1 of morphological figuresIssued from : R.B.S. Sewell in Spolia Zeylanica, 1914, 9. [Pl.XX, Figs.1-5].
Female (from Gulf of Mannar): 1, habitus (lateral right side); 2, A1; 4, P2.

Nota; Head and 1st thoracic segment separate, 4th and 5th fused. Proportional length of cephalothorax and abdomen 2.5:1. Proportional lengths of urosomites and furca 32:15:25:34 = 100. Rostrum absent. Posterior thoracic margin rounded and devoid of spines. Caudal rami long and slender, asymmetrical. A121-segmented (segments 2-6 fused); none of the segments possesses spines. A2: endopod long and exopod short. P5: a short, stout, basal portion carrying 1 plumose seta; exopod long slightly curved process, terminating in a sharp point and bearing 1 seta-like spine on its external margin at about the junction of the middle and distal thirds; endopod short and conical; there are no teeth on either ramus.

Male: 3, A1; 5, P5.
Nota: Proportional length of cephalothorax and abdomen 2:1. Proportional lengths of urosomites and furca 12:22:17:11:11:35. Right A1 18-segmented (segments 2-4, 19-21, 22-25 fused), modified to form a grasping organ; the 17th segment bears a row of needle-like teeth on its anterior margin; 18th segment bears a row of needle-like spines anteriorly, and distally armed with 2 claw-like spines, of which the proximal is the larger; the 19th segmentcarries a tooth-plate armed with acicular teeth, and the plate is produced beyond the distal extremity of the segment in a sharp spinous process. Mouths-parts and swimming legs are the same as in the female.P5: each leg consists of 3 segments and that on the right side forms a well-developed grasping apparatus
