It is possible that this form is just a variant of Microcalanus pygmaeus (See in Østvedt, 1955, p.58). For this author the smaller forms of Microcalanus correspond to pusillus and the short A1; no difference was found in the terminal spine of the swimming legs. For Vives & Shmeleva (2007, p.635), the species cited by Valdés (1993) would be Microcalanus pygmaeus. After Shiganova & al. (2012, p.99) this species new in the Black Sea (as other species) arise from a rise of the water surface layer temperature and/or increasing of shipping activity during the last decades.
