Nota: These specimens are identical with hyalinus and are mainly characterized by the pointed postero-lateral corners of the metasome. The mandible palp has 3 short setae on the proximal part of the basis and 4 long setae plus 1 short seta on the 2nd endopodal segment. The 3rd exopodal segment of P1 has 1 external spine.

Dry mass, individual respiration rate and ETS activity from the northern Benguela Current upwelling system along transects at 23°S and 26°40'S, off Walvisbay and Lüderitz (Namibia).

Sampling depth (sub-Antarct.) : 100-2500 m. In Sargasso Sea: 0-2000 m (Deevey & Brooks, 1977, Station "S"); 500-580 m (Pipe & Coombs, 1980 at 60°N, 07°W).
Vervoort, 1946 (p.91, 92) et 1963 b (p.88, 89) discusses the non-validity of this form that is considered valid by Fleminger (1973) and Brodsky & al. (1983).
See remarks Eucalanus elongatus from Vervoort (1963 b, p.88-89); and references in brackets.
Goetze & Bradford (2005, p.82) distinguish Eucalanus spinifer from Eucalanus hyalinus morphologically and genetically. Goetze (2003) considers this species as circum-global (tropical-subtropical).
For Goetze & Bradford-Grieve (2005, p.81) the identification given by the majority of workers cannot be reliably assigned to E. spinifer or E. hyalinus s.s.
After Lapernat & Razouls (2002, p.19) the Itoh's index value of the mandibular gnathobase = 642.7 (number of teeth: 8), and for Schnack (1989) 454 (as E. elongatus, probably).
After Benedetti & al. (2018, p.1, Fig.2) this species belonging to the functional group 3 corresponding to large filter feeding herbivorous.
For Pipe & Coombs (1980, table II), if this species is right as E. hyalinus and not elongatus, the sampling depths are 500-580 m in the Wyville Thompson Ridge (60°N).
