Paraeuchaeta parvula  (Park, 1978)   (F,M)
Syn.: Euchaeta parvula Park, 1978 (p.256, figs.F,M); Ward & Wood, 1988 (p.45, tab.1)
Bradford & al., 1983 (p.46, figs.F,M); Park, 1994 (p.321); 1995 (p.38, Rem.F, M, figs.F,M); Bradford-Grieve & al., 1999 (p.880, 926, fig.F); Laakmann & al., 2019 (p.330, fig. 4 phylogenetic relationships)
Species Paraeuchaeta parvula - Plate 1 of morphological figuresissued from : T. Park in Bull. Scripps Inst. Oceanogr. Univ. California, San Diego, 1995, 29. [p.134, Fig.24].
Female: a, forehead (left side); b, urosome (left); c, genital somite (left); d, outer lobe of Mx1; e, P1 (anterior); f, exopod of P2 (anterior).
Nota: Similar in habitus to P. barbata but rostrum very small, pointing more or less downward.
Genital somite more slender. Laterally, genital flange with strongly bulging ventral margin. Posterior margin of genital prominence nearly straight or slightly bulging and sloping about 35° with respect to long body axis. No tubercular outgrowth on genital somite.
Cephalosomal appendages including Mx1 and swimming legs similar to those of P. barbata except that in P1 exopod, outer spine of 2nd segment reaching base of following outer spine, which is nearly 1/2 length of terminal spine of 3rd segment, and in P2 exopod, incision separating 2nd marginal lobe of 3rd segment relatively shallow.

Male: g, forehead (left); h, distal exopodal segments of left P5 (larteral).

Species Paraeuchaeta parvula - Plate 2 of morphological figuresissued from : T. Park in Antarctic Res. Ser. Washington, 1978, 27. [p.257, Fig.102]. As Euchaeta parvula.
Female: A, habitus (lateral); B, forehead (lateral); C, distal end of metasome and genital segment (lateral); D, posterior part of metasome and urosome (dorsal); E, genital segment (ventral); F, P1; G, P2. P1-2: legs (anterior).

Nota from Bradford & al. (1983, p.46): - P1 exopod female: Aa minute; Bb ± BC; Cc = 2 BC.
- P2 exopod female: Aa = AB + 1/2 Bb; Bb = 1/2 BC; Cc = 2/3 CD; Dd = 1/4 CD. (see code of lengths outer spines in the Genus' figure, or in Paraeuchaeta sp. A).

Species Paraeuchaeta parvula - Plate 3 of morphological figuresissued from : T. Park in Antarctic Res. Ser. Washington, 1978, 27. [p.258, Fig.103]. As Euchaeta parvula.
Male: A, habitus (lateral); B, forehead (lateral); C, P1; D, P2; E, P5; F, G, distal part of exopod of left P5 (anterior, and medial, respectively). P1-5: legs (anterior).

Nota from Bradford & al. (1973, p.46): - P1 exopod male: Aa minute; Bb = 1/4 BC; Cc = 2/3 BC.
P2 exopod male: Aa = 1/4 AB; Bb = 1/3 BC; Cc = 1/3 CD; Dd = 1/4 CD. (see code of lengths outer spines in the Genus' figure, or in Paraeuchaeta sp. A).

Species Paraeuchaeta parvula - Plate 4 of morphological figuresissued from : J.M. Bradford-Grieve, E.L. Markhaseva & C.E.F. Rocha & B. Abiahy in South Atlantic Zooplankton, Edit. D. Boltovskoy. 1999, Vol.2. Copepoda. [p.1016, Fig. 7.160].
Female: Mx1 (schematic diagram). Li = inner lobe; Le = outer lobe.
Nota: In lateral view rostrum very small.

Species Paraeuchaeta parvula - Plate 5 of morphological figuresParaeuchaeta parvula Female:
1 - See key to species Groups and independent species of Paraeuchaeta (p.30): malayensis species Group.
2 - Outer spine of 2nd exopodal segment (or the 2nd of the first 2 exopodal segments forming a proximal, compound segment) of P1 normally developed (Fig.24-e).
3 - Outer lobe of Mx1 with 5 long setae (Fig.24-d).
4 - Laterally, genital prominence low with more or less convex genital flanges (Fig.24-c).
5 - Laterally, rostrum very small (Fig.24-a).

Sampling depth (Antarct., sub-Antarct.) : 0-1000+ m.park (1995, p.38) found this species in most of the samples from the Southern Ocean; the northern most sample yielding the species was from 31°11'S in the southeastern Atlantic and 35°S in the western Indian Ocean. For Park (1978, p.259) this species is circumpolar of the Southern Ocean occurring widely in deep water of both the Antarctic and Subantarctic and found as far north as 26°30'S in the southwestern Atlantic and 34°S in the southeasten Pacific
