Paraeuchaeta rubicunda  (Farran, 1908)   (F)
Syn.: Euchaeta rubicunda : Farran, 1908 b (p.44, Descr.F, figs.F); Rose, 1933 a (p.116, figs.F); Vervoort, 1957 (p.77)
Sewell, 1948 (p.500); Bradford & al.,1983 (p.23); Park, 1994 (p.319); 1995 (p.60, Rem.F, figs.F)
Species Paraeuchaeta rubicunda - Plate 1 of morphological figuresissued from : T. Park in Bull. Scripps Inst. Oceanogr. Univ. California, San Diego, 1995, 29. [p.164, Fig.54].
Female: a, forehead (left side); b, urosome (left); c, d, e, f, g, genital somite (left, left tilted clockwise, dorsal, right, ventral, respectively); h, Mx1 (first inner lobe omitted), posterior; i, P1 (anterior); j, P2 (anterior).

Nota: Laterally, rostrum nearly triangular, pointing obliquely forward; its anterior margin extending up to suprafrontal sensilla and roughly straight.
Genital somite with a conspicuous dorsal hump close to proximal end. Ventral margin of genital flange convex, facing anteroventrad. Left genital flange with large, well-defined posterior lobe pointing posteroventrad, followed by equally well-defined lobe formed by projecting posterior edge of genital field. Posterior margin of genital prominence smoothly bulging and as long as posterior ventral wall of somite. Right genital flange larger than left and its posterior lobe pointing posteroventrad. When viewed from right side, posterior edge of genital field appearing as a low, wide ridge, similar in shape to posterior lobe of genital flange of same side. Each side of anterior end of genital operculum produced into a tubercular process, which in lateral view projecting beyond genital flange. Dorsally, genital somite with several ridges on left side close to proximal end. Ventrally, genital field slightly asymmetrical with dissimilar posterior lobes of genital flanges.
Cephalosomal appendages similar to those of P. malayensis except that 1st endopodal segment of Mx1 with 6 setae and outer lobe with 7 long setae oplus 2 minute setae proximally.
In P1 exopod, outer margin of 1st segment strongly bulging and outer spine very small; outer spine of 2nd segment reaching close to base of following outer spine.
In P2 exopod, outer spine of 2nd segment extending slightly beyond base of following outer spine and little shorter than 2nd outer spine of 3rd segment.Incisuipn separating 2nd marginal lobe of 3rd segment moderately deep.

Species Paraeuchaeta rubicunda - Plate 2 of morphological figuresissued from : G.P. Farran in Fish. Ire. Sci. Invest., 1906, II [1908]. [Pl. III, Figs.8-10]. As Euchaeta rubicunda.
Female (from 55°1'N, 10°45'W): 8-9, genital segment (ventral and lateral, respectively); 10, exopod of P2.

Species Paraeuchaeta rubicunda - Plate 3 of morphological figuresParaeuchaeta rubicunda Female:
1 - See key to species Groups and independent species of Paraeuchaeta (p.30): malayensis species Group.
2 - Outer spine of 2nd exopodal segment (or the 2nd of the first 2 exopodal segments forming a proximal, compound segment) of P1 normally developed (Fig.54-i).
3 - Outer lobe of Mx1 with 7 long setae in addition to 2 minute setae proximally (Fig.54-h).
4 - Genital somite without a conical process on left side close to anterior base of genital prominence (Fig.54-c).
5 - Dorsally and ventrally, genital somite symmetrical.
6 - Laterally, genital flange with normal posterior lobe (Fig.54-c).
7 - Laterally, genital somite with conspicuous dorsal hump (Fig.54-d).

Distribution map of Paraeuchaeta rubicunda by geographical zones
NE Atlant. (off W Ireland)

Type locality: 55°01'N, 10°45'W.
N: 2
(3) F: 8,66; (24) F: 8,8; {F: 8,66-8,80}
Rem.: Bathypelagic.
This species, described from a female specimen, was redescribed by Park (1995, p.60), close to the type locality, at 47°23'N, 19°10'W, 90 years later. The specimen was found to be in good agreement with the original description except that 7 long setae on the outer lobe of the left Mx1 (instead 5 as described by Farran) and only 4 on the same lobe of the right Mx1.
