Nota: Head and 1st thoracic segment fused but the line of fusion clearly visible; 4th and 5th toracic segments incompletely fused laterally. Posterolateral thoracic borders extend backwards and upwards into acute points which do not quite reach genital segment posterior border. Rostrum represented by 2 medium-sized points. Urosome 4-segmented. A1 almost reaches posterior border 3rd thoracic segment. mx1: 1st inner lobe covered with small spinules and with 8 stout, sparsely plumose, apical spines, 2 longer proximal spines and 4 setae; 2nd inner lobe has 5 setae; 3rd inner lobe covered in fine spines and 4 setae; 1st outer lobe with 9 large serae; 2nd outer lobe naked; 2nd basipod with 4 setae and endopod with approximately 15 setae; exopod with 10 setae.

mesopelagic. After Bradford-Grieve (2003, p.102) the samples currently reported on have extended the range of B. spinifer northwards along the continental slope of north-eastern New Zealand. Examined as complete specimens, B. spinifer and B. capax look similar, but may be distinguished.
