Pontella gaboonensis  T. Scott, 1894   (F,M)
Syn.: Pontella mediterranea gaboonensis T. Scott, 1894 b (p.86, figs.M, juv. F)
Ref.:
Giesbrecht & Schmeil, 1898 (p.144); Vervoort, 1965 (p.176, Descr.F,M, figs.F,M, Rem.: p.185); Silas & Pillai, 1973 (1976) (p.776); Bradford-Grieve & al., 1999 (p.885, 960, figs.F,M)
Espèce Pontella gaboonensis - Planche 1 de figures morphologiquesIssued from : W. Vervoort in Atlantide Report, 1965, 8. [p.177, Fig.30]
Female (from off Nigeria): a, habitus (dorsal); b, idem (lateral right side); c, forehead (dorsal); d, head (lateral); e, idem (lateral, after removal of mouth appendages); f, posterior part cephalothorax and urosome (dorsal).
Nota: Head and 1st thoracic somite almost completely fused (a weak line visible on the dorsal portion of the cephalon). Urosome 2-segmented; genital complex slightly asymmetrical (more slightly produced on the left side); anal somite partly covered (anal flap completely hidden by the genital complex). Caudal rami nearly symmetrical, the right slightly larger; each ramus has a short, densely haired appendicular seta; the internal border of the caudal rami is densely haired. A1 24-segmented.

Espèce Pontella gaboonensis - Planche 2 de figures morphologiquesIssued from : W. Vervoort in Atlantide Report, 1965, 8. [p.178, Fig.31]
Female: a, posterior part cephalothorax and urosome (lateral right side); b, idem (lateral left side); c, Mx2; d, Mxp.
Nota: Mx2 characterized by the presence of large, strongly spinulose setae on all endites; coxa and basis fused, each segment with 2 endites; the distal three endites each carry 2 strong, spinulose setae, and a smaller appendicular seta, the proximal endite with 2 large and 3 smaller spinulose setae; the single endite on the basis is coalescent with a large, spinulose seta, and 1 fine, basal seta; 4th basipodal segment distinctly separated from the basis with 1 spinulose seta; only 2 free endopodal segments, 1st with 1 spinulose seta, 2nd (apical) segment with 2 spinulose setae and 1 smaller, haired seta. Coxa of Mxp well developed, with 3 lobes, packed closely together, the proximal lobe with 2 spinulose setae, median lobe with 2 spinulose setae plus 1 small appendicular seta, distal lobe with 1 spinulose seta plus 1 appendicular seta; basis small with 1 small seta, the apical lobe is scarcely separated from the basis and has 2 setae; 5 endopodal segments with 2, 1, 12, 2, 3.1 setae, respectively; there is no external seta on the 4th segment.

Espèce Pontella gaboonensis - Planche 3 de figures morphologiquesIssued from : W. Vervoort in Atlantide Report, 1965, 8. [p.180, Fig.32]
Female: a-b, A1; c, A2; d, Md (mandibular palp); e, Md (mandibular praecoxa); f, Mx1; g, P5.
Nota: Praecoxal arthrite of Mx1 well developed, with 8 strong, spinelike setae, and 7 small spiniform setae; coxal epipodite with 9 setae (two of which are fine); coxal endite large with 3 big setae; basal endite small with 1 strong seta and 2 fine setae on the lobe; basal exite just visible with 1 seta; basipodite (4th segment) large (it may have fused with some of the endopodal segments), with three groups of 4, 2, 2 setae, respectively; a small, free endopodal segment with 5 setae; exopodite well developed with 10 setae.

Espèce Pontella gaboonensis - Planche 4 de figures morphologiquesIssued from : W. Vervoort in Atlantide Report, 1965, 8. [p.181, Fig.33]
Female: a, P1; b, P2; c, P3; d, P4.

Male: a, habitus (lateral right side); b, idem (dorsal); c, head (lateral); d, forehead (dorsal); e, posterior part cephalothorax and urosome (lateral right side).
Nota: Head and 1st thoracic somite completely fused, 4th and 5th partly separate. Rostral lens strongly visible in lateral view. The urosomal segments and furca in the proportional lengths 18:12:17:8:16:29 = 100.

Espèce Pontella gaboonensis - Planche 6 de figures morphologiquesIssued from : W. Vervoort in Atlantide Report, 1965, 8. [p.184, Fig.35]
