Syn.: no Pontellopsis herdmani : Sewell, 1912 (p.375, figs.F, Rem.)
Thompson & Scott, 1903 (p.236, 253, Descr.F, figs.F); Sewell, 1914 a (p.238, Rem.); 1932 (p.385, figs.F); 1948 (p.324); Kasturirangan, 1963 (p.57, figs.F); Saraswathy, 1966 (1967) (p.84); Silas & Pillai, 1973 (1976) (p.843, Descr.M, figs.F,M, Rem.); Greenwood, 1979 (p.109, figs.F, Rem.); Kimmerer & al., 1985 (p.428); Bradford-Grieve, 1999 b (p.208, figs.F, fig. 194); Mulyadi, 2002 (p.128, figs.F, Rem.); Othman & Toda , 2006 (p.316, figs.F,M); Al-Yamani & al., 2011 (p.78, figs.F,M)
Espèce Pontellopsis herdmani - Planche 1 de figures morphologiquesissued from : J.G. Greenwood in Proc. R. Soc. Qd, 1979, 90. [p.108, Fig.9].
Female (from Moreton Bay, E Australia): a, habitus (dorsal); b, urosome (dorsal); c, urosome (dorsal); d, posterior part of thorax and urosome (lateral right side); d, P5.

Espèce Pontellopsis herdmani - Planche 2 de figures morphologiquesIssued from : R.B.S. Sewell in Mem. Indian Mus., 1932, X (continued). [p.385, Fig.128, a-b].
Female (from N Indian): a, habitus (dorsal); b, P5.

Espèce Pontellopsis herdmani - Planche 3 de figures morphologiquesissued from : E.G. Silas & P.P. Pillai in J. mar. biol. Ass. India, 1973 (1976), 15 (2). [p.843, Fig.31].
Female (from Gulf of Manaar): a, urosome (dorsal); b, P5.

Male (from South Kerala Coast): c, urosome (dorsal); d, right A1 (distal part); e, P5.
Nota: Posterior corners of Th5 modified into a rounded lobe on its left side and into an acuminate long spine on its right side, which is directed ventrad and curved inwards; tip of this process reaches mid-margin of ouosomal segment 3. Urosomal segment 1 with 2 small spinuous setae at its right distal margin. Urosomal segment 2 not modified. Urosomal segment 3 with a prominent projection at its right margin beset with small denticles. caudal rami asymmetrical, left ramus broader than long, while right ramus is longer than broad. Right A1 geniculate, segment 14 with a moderately long spine with a flagellum at its tip; segment 17 with a dorsal plate, finely serrated; segment 18 with dorsal denticles more triangular and well packed; segment 19 of fusion segment 19-21 with 5-7 flagellum like setae arranged radially. P5 bears a close resemblance to that of P. krameri; right leg with a chela, thumb of chela is long, exceeds length of claw and is serrated at its apex; inner margin of hand with a triangular protuberance; claw more or less straight, with striated outer margin; it is proximally thicker and tapers to apex; inner margin of claw with 2 setae and with another seta at its apex. Left P5 with terminal segment carrying 2 subequal spines distally and 1 outer marginal spine; inner margin with a band of setae; subterminal segment with a disto-lateral spine.
Scale as in Calanopia minor.

Remarks: The present material differs from the original description of this species by Thompson & Scott (1953) in that, the genital segment has 1 dorsal and 1 right lateral spine instead of 2 thorn-like projection on the left side. Sewell (1912, p.375) described a form 'intermediate' between P. herdmani and P. macronyx and commented that these are different forms of a single variable species; latter (1935, p.388-390) he dscribed this 'intermediate' form as P. scotti. The male of this species, which remained undescribed so far shows cose resemblance to that of P. krameri; the diagnostic characters of the P5 separates this species from the former.

Espèce Pontellopsis herdmani - Planche 4 de figures morphologiquesissued from : Mulyadi in Treubia, 2002, 32; [p.129, Fig.47].
Female (from S Java): a, habitus (dorsal); b, metasomal somite 5 and urosome (dorsal) from another specimen c, metasomal segment 5 and urosome (lateral); d, urosome (ventral); e, P5.

Nota: The present female differs from the female figured by Thompson & Scott (1903), Silas & Pillai (1973), Greenwood (1979) in having: the urosomal somite 1 has 2 unequal processes on anterior part, 1 spine-like process on right posterior margin, and 1 rounded process on left posterior margin; the P5 almost symmetrical with 3 outer spines and bifurcated apex.

Espèce Pontellopsis herdmani - Planche 5 de figures morphologiquesissued from : B.H.R. Othman & T. Toda in Coast. Mar. Sc., 2006, 30 (1). [p.316, Fig.20];

Male: B, habitus (dorsal); C, thoracic segment 5 and urosome (dorsal); D, right A1; E, P5.

Nota: Female: Prosome to urosome length ratio 2.86 : 1.
- Cephalon and 1st thoracic segment separated, broadly rounded with small projection over base of rostrum, 4th and 5th thoracic segments fused, produced posteriorly into acute processes, slightly asymmetrical, right process slightly longer.
- Urosome 2-segmented, asymmetrical.
- Genital segment asymmetrical, left margin slightly swollen near distal end, right distal margin projected postero-laterally into an acutiform process, proximal margin with setule-like projection.
- P5 asymmetrical, right leg slightly longer, exopod with 2 small outer marginal spines a,d bifurcated at apex; endopod bifid at tip, both rami curved inwards.

Nota Male: Prosome to urosome length ratio 3.15 : 1.
- Cephalon and 1st pedigerous somite separated, 4th and 5th fused, posterior thoracic corners asymmetrical, left broadly triangular extending beyond middle of genital segment, right acuminate curving inwards reaching distal end of urosomite 3.
- Urosome 5-segmented.
-Genital segment broader than long with 2 setae on distal right margin.
- Urosomite 3 with a prominent lobe on right margin, crowned with spinules at apex.
